Yes I noticed this too !

...I may be the only one then selling vintage locks on Ebid until the other sellers come and join me if I decide to go that route :)

Will need to find a way to direct more buyers to my listings on Ebid via Facebook and Instagram.

I'm guessing you've not had much to do with online advertising then. That's one mighty task that no one else seems to have managed in the last 25 years.

No I always relied solely on eBay for getting buyers to my listings that's why I suffered greatly when they revised Cassini and made it harder for people to find my items.. :(

I guess if I want sales on Ebid I'll have to work hard on the advertising bit...

Nice chatting, have a great afternoon  😎

Just going back to the point about postage, just in case it got missed. If you use simple postage (or managed postage whatever ebay are calling it this week) then you are covered as soon as your item is posted using the label supplied by ebay.  Read the announcement , if an item is lost when using managed payments you get paid anyway, so in some ways that might benefit you as ebay will probably be cheaper than your delivery and might even encourage more buyers, you never know.

I would also think that if Evri prove to be unreliable and ebay pick up too many hits on lost items, then they might rethink offering it entirely. I use GSP for my overseas items on both my business and private accounts and I know ebay switch countries like Italy on and off depending on how many claims they are getting.

One further tip on ebid, a lot of the forum is not necessarily UK specific , so if reading anything or responding to questions be aware that other users might be overseas.

It's also not just Evri for Simple Delivery.  They also use Royal Mail, although eBay do get to choose which service on an order by order basis.

"What carriers are available on Simple Delivery?
All postage labels will be from Royal Mail and Evri."

At this moment in time eBay only offers  "Royal Mail Tracked 48" and Packlink (Evri)

From past experience I know that Royal Mail 48 hour tracked service is not always reliable, ie, it is sometimes slow and the postman does not always log it on their scanner as "Delivered" which results in no proof of delivery.

The best service from Royal Mail is "Special Delivery" although it's now getting pretty expensive !, it gives you piece of mind with a guaranteed delivery proof, prompt reliable next day delivery (which buyers like) and insurance of the item value just in case the worst does happen !.

For heavier items ParcelForce 48 hour delivery service has always served me well with full tracking delivery confirmation and insurance of up to £100 as standard.

eBay's managed delivery,  now no longer allow these services to be used and we private sellers are basically at eBay's mercy.... Which is not very good.

You missed the bit mentioned several times and also in the announcement that ebay take responsibility as soon as item is posted. This is why I keep stressing, READ the announcement as knowing what is happening can allow users to make an informed decision rather than panic and run about crying 'doom'.

    Simple Delivery | eBay

    • You'll be protected if the item is lost or damaged from the point the item is scanned into the carrier's delivery network and until it's marked as delivered
Also, as was asked earlier- if you have a link to the announcement that says it is definitely going to be compulsory then please link it here - as that allows users to make an informed choice about what they list.

The wording in the link above could be read to suggest that it will be optional as it says under benefits of the new system

    • There are no transaction fees on postage
which would be an unnecessary statement if there wasn't an alternative.

Yes I've also read that part when eBay says you are covered from when the courier receives your buyer's item, but what they fail to mention is what happens if a buyer returns an item for any reason because they've changed their mind ?... who pays for the return postage ??...or what happens if it arrives damaged by the courier that eBay used ? do eBay give the buyer back their money ? and take the loss ?? (as it was not the seller's fault either) or do eBay step a side and pass the loss on to the seller by saying "We're sorry, hard luck" ?

I have to admit I have not read all the comments .. I just happened to notice the thread a day or two ago.

It seems all parcels must now be tracked .. well, from the start date :)

I only use Royal Mail and EVRi.

I know EVRi provides a tracking number, but Royal Mail, I thought only offered a 'delivered code' for want of a better name on their receipt. Not proper tracking, but will highlight a delivery. Funnily enough, yesterday I was in the PO (not my normal one) and I was asked whether I wanted tracking for an extra 20p .. this I had never heard of before, so may be useful in future.

I'm not 100% sure, but the Royal Mail 'delivered code' isn't available for large letters, so maybe this extra 20p service would be good here too
Just to clarify for your benefit the 20p extra will be to change from 2nd class parcel to Tracked 48.
It wouldn’t be 20p extra for Large Letter (depending on the weight) somewhere from £1.50-£2 more.

If buyer needs to return something due to a change of mind then they pay just as they do now, unless your policy states seller will pay. As per the notification, if items are damaged en route then eBay deal with it and take the hit.
