  • Hello slimmers!  I am doing slimming world and am losing 1.5 pounds a week.

I wondered if anyone has found that they spend more on groceries doing slimming world?

Because I am meal planning g and trying to get lots of variety in my diet I seem to buy loads of food and it's only me in the house

I am spending about £70-75 a week including drinks and household.  I don't know why it adds up to so much.  I batch cook and freeze portions and use up everything, no leftovers or waste.

For me the low fat diet means I have to fill up on free food dishes or I will get hungry for snacks, so I'm having big portions.  Still losing the weight though.

Just spending a lot on food!  Upside is I don't buy takeaways anymore so I guess I am saving there.

Curious as to other swimmers weekly food spend.

Welcome @Iloveyoutoo to the SW thread.  You are doing the right thing by filling up on free foods.  There are lots of cheap meals you can make from simple things like omelettes and add you can add what ever veg and meat you have in the fridge - ham, mushrooms, peppers, onions, cooked sliced potatoes etc etc; jacket potatoes, baked beans with salad and or loads of pickles.  Even something as simple as egg and chips makes a cheap meal.  You can always have some frozen mixed fruit with some fat free natural yoghurt to follow if it's not enough.

Where do you shop?  Have you tried Aldi and/or Lidl for your shopping, it's likely to be less than you are currently spending especially if you can make use of their Super 6 with has a selection of veg and fruit.  Have you tried apps like Too Good To Go?  Of course you can't choose what you get with this Morrisons tend to be quite good usually with a selection of fruit and veg.   Lidl do £1.50 boxes of fruit and veg if you happen to get to the shop at the right time which are extremely good value although I haven't managed to get one of those lately.

I probably spend about half what you do for 2 of use and we eat really well usually (not so much at the moment as neither of us are well at the moment so it's a case of using what we've got in the freezer as far as possible)!

Try asking for ideas at group when you go, everyone will be very willing to share their ideas with you.

Good luck with cutting your spending.

Hope you feel better sooon Joe Denise.
ive had a couple of days celebrating ds birthday with him this week so I’m expecting to have put the pound I lost last week back on. I have until Wednesday to pull it back. I haven’t been doing much exercise recently- I used to go to aqua a couple of times a week but haven’t made  it since November as I’ve had a bad arm and then the gym/pool flooded over New Year and they’ve been working hard to reopen the hotel and gym complex so I’ve re discovered my WiiFit. I’ve deleted my old records as it’ll really upset me seeing my old stats and started from anew. I’m hoping to get half and hour a day on it…..feel free to give me a kick up the backside to remind me to get some walking or wii-ing in my days.
Have a great weekend everybody 👍

    Evening all,

Hope the move went out well @bubbs x

Sorry you're still not feeling well @joedenise - definitely sounds like you need more antibiotics. I would usually congratulate you on the weightloss but it feels crass to say that when you're so poorly x

Well done on STS @Bluegreen143 x

I went to London today on the train - first time since we moved. It's an okay journey of 1hr 10mins instead of the usual 20 mins. I met an ex-colleague for lunch at Pizza Expre$$. I deliberately went earlier to have a mooch around the shops and make the most of the train fare! I had a buddha bowl with beetroot and goats cheese and a diet coke. Some syns in the food but tbh it was full of lettuce and tomatoes and beetroot too, I don't really mind. I went for a wander afterwards, across St James Park to Pall Mall/St James where I worked before having the children, then into Fortnums for a window shop at the gorgeous food items(!) then Hatchards bookshop (love it) then up to Regent Street for a look in Zara and Uni Qlo. Walked back to Victoria via Green Park and Burlington Arcade (diamonds!!!). Did 11k steps which is about 3 days worth currently!! Felt good to be out and about and surprisingly not all that busy.

We had chilli turkey stir fry and noodles for tea which was free. Loads of speed in the stirfry veg mix.

    Now for rugby!
    Have a good evening all

  • Thank you 💗 I recalculated and I got my figure wrong it is actually £50 a week, but still feels like too much.

Thanks for sharing your budget, I can try some lower cost meals I think to bring the price down.  Good suggestions.

I have no Lidl or Aldi next to me and I don't drive. I get a delivery once a month from Sainsbury's which is my big shop.  Then I go to Tesco inbetween, and also to the Spar which is just around the corner for milk and bits.

Think I need to rethink where I shop as you have said.  Now I have calculated it right I will try to make some changes and keep track of tlny February spend and see how much I can cut down.

Dinner tonight was a home made chilli con carne with 5% mince, black beans, mixed beans, mushrooms, peas, red peppers, tomatoes,.onions..,  1 syn per portion because of the olive oil.  One of my favourites.

Then again I buy organic mince so that costs more than I need to spend.  Habit of buying organic meat, milk and eggs.  Will try and see if I can still buy these organic and cut down in other ways.  Haven't actually checked on the savings I would make if I switched.  I don't think it is a huge difference.

Anyway, nice to meet you and nice to be here.  Hope you all have a tasty weekend and stay on plan 🤞

    xx

I think £50 per week given the current cost of living is really decent tbh!

This month I spent £650 on groceries for a family of four. It’s slightly less than I spent before slimming world. I haven’t found skimming world has made the budget go up at all, but then I already bought loads of fruit and veg. Of course my family aren’t doing SW so maybe any SW impact on the budget is small because it’s just one out of the four of us changing how we eat.

    Morning all
WI with 3lb off (didn’t record that tummy issue loss of last Sunday) so that’s the gain gone from last weekend!
    Uneventful week has helped.
Hubby is now officially retired (medically) but not old enough for pension. The company have not only agreed to medically retire but also redundancy so he will get a fair bit more than we were expecting. We thought he’d only get holiday entitlement as that’s all he was getting since his diagnosis. Had to get it all legalised by a solicitor (company paid) ( she thinks the redundancy is because they know they broke the law as he’s disabled & they didn’t find him something to do so he wasn’t on the road) so just waiting for the paper work to pass on to UC (thieving gits) who won’t then pay anything for a month 😤. Still waiting on PIP to hopefully pay him extra for home dialysis but saw on news they are backed up with demand, bet they don’t give back pay either! 🤞🏻 things move a bit quicker!

Hope all poorlies get well soon (my issues still ongoing too 🥺) love to all & thank you for all the support you give each other. I love this site & the wonderful people on it. I feel I know you all even though we’ve never met 🤗🤣 (might be the happy pills talking 🤪🤣🤣)
