I am just going to say something you most likely won’t want to hear. You need to get a job. I think you are way too picky. When you are looking for a job it’s the employer that stipulates what they want & people jump through hoops to satisfy.
Once you have been there a wee while then you can negotiate.
You need to get out of the house & be mixing with people other than your lodger & MD.
What about volunteering? So many volunteer opportunities out there. What about your local food bank?

CB, I agree with Beanielou, You had an offer of eight weeks work. You have let yourself down and the company that thought you were "ideal" can I ask how far was too far to drive?

CB , You should have given the job a chance , you only got offered it the other day , they most likely have not had the chance to do the contract yet , once you were in the door you may have been able to negotiate the in office days , it may have been 3 because you were new . Its taken you a while to find a job so may have been better to take it x

Maybe you are right but everything was done in one day, where I would normally reject it if I didn't because I had no time to think, it would take an hour and half to get there and and the same back. I'll be honest with you I have not taken to office work very well or at least I am finding it too traumatic everytime a job ends and I have to start again. My last perm role lasted 1.5 years before being made redundant, I had numerous temp roles and before that 3 years perm before being made redundant. The last 10 years have been hideous to be honest, and none of the jobs I get last either they don't want me or I am finding an issue that I can't live with. This could be partly because I am mentally challenged, but also maybe it just is not the right fit for me?

I could persevere, but I am sick of not having regular employment is it so hard to get a job, where you like going to work? and want to be in work - sorry but I don't have enough good stuff in my life to have a naff job! mentally I cannot cope, is that understandable?

Therefore this morning I have initiated an application for nursing, I just spent £14.99 to approach an old colleague about getting a reference and I have to say I think it is the best solution, I'll have something to do for three years and they are screaming out for nurses I am more then capable of study as I have proven this and I can be very good with care.

I think in an office space I must be a bit thick, although no one complains about the work I do, I am missing something that stops people from wanting to keep me. Perhaps it will be the same in nursing, however If I work at practice I could work with my patients all day then go home. I am up for the challenge.

I came on to see how on today.  Do UC know you’ve turned down a job ? You might be penalised if they know.

Check to see if you can afford to live whilst training to be a nurse as the rules on UC are different for students.  Have you ever done any caring roles? You would still be expected to be looking for a role till uni starts.  Could you start at a care home / hospital auxiliary to get experience and see if you actually like it?

Not wishing to appear rude but are you up to being on your feet all day? I thought the entry requirement for a nurse is a degree? A quick google finds tests about a nursing career.

Thank you both, I was going to apply at local University, however I am having second thoughts about how I do it. You see my weight is a problem if I am to work as a nurse. I have been thinking about this how I could tackle this. It is a bit naughty so I won't tell all the details but it involves me delaying the application until January giving me 5 months to shift the weight before I start. However I know I can't do this and work because I will need to sleep a lot to do it and I will be in pain and very uncomfortable. But I am up for it, I need to try something, it is cheaper then surgery at least £2400 versus £5000-£15000! You see I will have a plan, I will start the day with a cooked breakfast (still deciding what exactly) High protein, low carb, low fat. Have very small portions thorughout the day. And go for preferably two walks per day, one in the morning one in the early afternoon, going as far as I can and pushing myself. I will weigh myself daily to see the results which will only spurn me on. UC do know they are okay with it, they understand my situation.

You see the thing that makes me tired is my medication and my weight if I could at least try to lose the weight, if I fail which I really hope not I will have to reevaluate what I do, but I need to try something. or forever I will not be working, and my weight is holding me back. I dread to think what my body will look like after, but if I can walk 10 miles in a day I will be a lot happier and potentially I can work in a different way. Potentially I will not go to University and just get a carer job, I can live here on those wages. However if I am more confident I may nab myself a life partner, preferably one without a Fiance or wife or girlfriend.XX

Okay I have just looked at what I will need to do and it is not straightforward and I think potentially I am stuck not being able to do anything. I need a job close to home that is a desk job, and that is it. Sadly I probably won't get this so I am screwed! I don't know what to do?!

I actually think it's a great idea Crazy, assuming, as Chiveley has said, are you up for being on your feet all day. Also, as you've mentioned 3 days in the office is too much for you and you'll interested in a remote job - nursing is a full on job. I never done a caring job but have a friend back home and it's both mentally and physically demanding job. I used to rent a place with a nurse here and it's a lot of day/night shifts work, this was years ago though so don't know if anything changed. I remember clashing over bathroom as I was trying to get ready for work while she was in the bath relaxing after her night shift. We've had a lovely time living together though, fantastic soul. My lovely next door neighbour here, she's also a nurse in our local hospital and I meet her often when she's coming back home between 6-8am in the morning from her night shift and then she leaves again at 4pm to get back for her next shift. I ask her how she can do this, she tells me she just loves her job! I sometimes drop her food because I don't know if she has time to cook lol!

If you're not going to work while studying, have a look at maintenance loans, but I don't know how it works where you are, I'm in Scotland. Is it a full time or part time studies you're considering? UC will stop for sure but the maintenance loan can help. I've had maintenance loan few years ago when doing my BSc (mature student changing careers) and it was doable, I was renting a room back then, and it was enough to get me through. I was doing full time uni, first two years I've had a weekend job in a cafe, then I quit the job to focus on uni only as it got too demanding.

As you know, I'm back at uni now again doing my part time MSc, also in a full time job and it's doable but really demanding on my head. I'm paying my own fees now though. Not for a career change this time but general investing in myself with a plan to increase my salary as well. I'm similar age to you if that's any relevant.

I always support any form of upskilling etc, I think my first post on your diary was to look into career change as well. Definitely, if you feel like you're up for a challenge I'd say go for it. Research all the ins and outs of the courses, funding, supporting yourself while studying etc. You'll get to meet people who are also passionate about caring for others, there is nothing not to like really if you feel that's for you. Keep us posted! xx
