Moving over from ESA Support group to UC advice.

I got a letter from DWP telling me that i have to move over to UC and to apply by start of Feb and would like some advice please.

I am in the support group for ESA so will i have to go to a medical or interview for UC if i am in the support group for ESA?

Would i be made to go to Job centre as i do not do as i am in support group for ESA?

My wife claims Carers allowance as she is my carer due to my health issues so will that go on as normal or will that stop as soon as i apply to move over to UC and also i am on PIP will that carry on as normal?

i will be doing it online so is it a easy thing to do or will they want reports from my GP to be uploaded to them or anything to do with my health issues that i have?

also is it dead on 5 weeks from when i apply to getting the 1st payment and i get my ESA every 2 weeks so would i have to have monthly payment for UC or can they do 2 weekly payments?

would my housing benefit get paid with the UC and then i would have to pay it to my housing association or would it get paid direct to them like it is at the moment?

No. Once you've claimed UC, put a note onto your Journal (online account) stating that you are migrating from SG ESA.
It will then take a few weeks for ESA to send your details to UC.
Once done, you will have LCWRA (SG equivalent) on your award.
Ignore any requests in the meantime for a Fit Note. You don't need one and they will stop asking once LCWRA goes on your claim.

There are some id requirements when claiming, these can be done online or by phone.
You'll have UC commitments to accept, this can also be done by phone.

Carers Allowance will carry on as normal, and will be deducted in full (£354) from each UC Payment. UC is a monthly benefit and CA weekly, so while the deduction looks incorrect it is actually right.
    PIP is unaffected.

It is easy to do online, as I said ignore any requests for a Fit Note, this is the system picking up your self reported health conditions but not yet knowing about LCWRA entitlement.

It is 5 weeks until your first UC payment.
Two weeks after claiming UC, you'll get a further payment of both ESA & HB (what's known as a run on payment).
This won't be deducted from your first UC payment.

You can request an Alternative Payment Arrangement via Journal. They will pay twice a month, which is not every 14 days. This also means you'd be waiting longer for a full payment.

Once you claim UC, Housing Benefit ends. You then receive Housing Element as part of your UC.
You can request a different APA and request it is paid directly to LL.

Is any part of your ESA contributions based or is it all income related? If some of it is conts based then you will continue to receive that part of your ESA every fortnight.

Just to note that the DWP say that a 'fix' is now finally in place, and that those migrating from ESA to UC should no longer be asked to supply Fit Notes.
There's a headline on Rightsnet but the full article is subscription only, so I have nothing to link here.
    Better late than never.
  • It won't just be your claim, it will be yours and your wife's claim, as the claim will be joint.

Two weeks after claiming UC, you should have received a payment with 2 weeks worth of Housing Benefit & IR ESA (if any part of your ESA was Income Related).

This is known as a run on payment.

As you've already received your first UC payment you should have also received the final payment for both ESA and HB, which should have been before the UC payment.
