I hope you find what you are looking for!I love them! So useful as an extra layer, even if not always/ usually (in my case anyway) glamorous. I probably wore them as a child, but I can't remember being traumatised by itI used to have one hanging on the back of my office chair before I retired, for the frequent occasions when it got a bit chilly at work. Now I like layering them over dresses with thick tights and boots, or simply putting an old oversize one over what I am randomly wearing when it is chilly indoors, instead of putting on the heating.6 -
Traumatised by cardigans hah. I remember being buttoned into a liberty bodice complete with rubber buttons! No I'm not that old - grandma must have saved the ones my mum had, she was 4 when WWII started. Apparently I should have been prouder of my liberty bodice (I just googled it to check if I was right about the rubber buttons). They were originally introduced as part of the Rational Clothing Movement, they 'liberated' women from corsets with whalebone stays. The women's versions sometimes had suspenders attached for knickers (doing away with the need for combinations).8

Yesterday was very long and tiring. I was woken up by my phone pinging to give me a time slot for the WM delivery, 7.14 am to 11.14 am. I was afraid of nodding off again so force myself to stay awake, despite having had only a few hours sleep. I fretted about finishing the preparations but wasn't alert enough to do anything. As the time passed I managed a zombified trip to the kitchen and move the old machine further out. Asked DS3 if he could help but he replied that he was getting ready for an appointment. Gave up and went back to my couch.
He came down when he was dressed and pulled the machine mostly out and he'd pulled the hose from the outlet pipe, but needed me to get the unscrew the inlet hose. We moved the machine so I could get nearer and bending double (crouching on my haunches is a distant memory) I turned off the water and unscrewed the hose. My head was just under the worktop and I needed DS3's help to back out and then he got it outside. He tumbled it to outside the back gate whilst I fretted about the neighbour who we think reported us to the Council (the one who blocks the entrance to the back by parking her car outside her back gate, scarcely leaving room to get the bins out for collection)
I was exhausted after that so went back to my couch. The delivery men phoned to say they would call me when they were half an hour away so I went upstairs and brushed my teeth. I then swept all the debris from the space where the WM had been and then poured a kettle of boiling water on the floor, scrubbed it with my rubber broom and threw a pile of rags at it to soak up the muddy water and debris (bits that were stuck on). Then back to the couch.
The men came near to the end of the time slot and wheeled the machine up the garden path and into the kitchen. DS3 was back from his appointment so I went to get my shower whilst he removed the packaging. I was just slapping cheese spread on wraps for a much delayed breakfast when he came in to complain that the tools he needed weren't in the package. I explained that only the big Swedish store routinely does that and described the tool he needed to do the job and likely locations where it could be found.
When I'd eaten I went to try more places (I'm sure we have about 3 of the tool in question. I had given him pliers and an adjustable wrench earlier but they weren't good enough. He went upstairs and back to sleep. I lay on the couch, didn't get to sleep but too much of a zombie to do anything. I put my mask on and watched my serial, trying to get up and go shopping at the end of each episode. At gone 3 pm I finally got myself to HB. I found a small torch for DS2 and I to do the meter photos, checked and bought the batteries that were not included and bought a multi tool for the WM and got hot food on the way back (needed in the absence of sleep) as the WM is blocking access to the oven and microwave.
Many parcels arrived and were unpacked during the day. When I tried to take the box of collected paper to the bin it dropped, spilling the contents. By the time I'd taken out the bag from the kitchen (gathering smaller pieces of packaging) and brought the bin to put it in back from the collection point, I couldn't manage another trip. I did pick up the fallen paper and card but generally the house is a total mess.
DS2 arrived as planned at 10.30 pm. We went to grandma's house and the key wouldn't work. It was the right key (the original) but wouldn't turn all the way. In February it took myself and DS3 nearly an hour to gain access. Replacing the locks (and doors) was on my list but once more I got the 'unnecessary expense' line. We tried my niece's house and phone (she has one of the newer keys I had cut) with no success, so I apologised to DS2 and we went back to mine. We filled in a questionnaire on childhood development, illnesses, accidents and incidents (high risk activities and sports was a common theme) for an upcoming assessment and he went home.
I didn't try to explain the state of the house (I asked him to pass me my green sack and grabber stick and gathered some stuff whilst he was there) so he's probably now in talks with DS1 about what help I need or whether they should just have me committed or consigned to a care facility.
Grateful to my sons for the help they gave, grateful to the delivery men who were polite and friendly, grateful for mostly finding what I needed in the shops (DS3 has been out this morning and bought a specific tool to do the !***! fourth nut).
I have no plans for today. Well I have but they're have as much sleep as possible (done but will sleep more if I can), take my pills and have something to eat (probably more cheese spread on wraps as they are to hand) and rest/ read until I feel human and have enough energy to get upstairs for my shower. Then I'll start plodding or rest some more.9 -

Hello turtles, had a busy week and finally managed to finish decluttering and cleaning the living room. (For now)I sold another dress on Vint*d on Wednesday, but the locker was full, so OH drove me to another one further away, which was also full. We tried the third one even further away, and we finally found one with some empty lockers. I have also donated one trench, one puffer coat which is fitting me a bit too snugly nowadays, and has been replaced last year by a slightly longer one which goes great with skirts or dresses, and a summer top which was in good condition, but not good enough to be sold.I’m really pleased the bedroom is finally looking almost complete, and the living room and landing are finally looking decent again. There’s still a few areas to be declittered and reorganised, but for now it’s good enough. I didn’t manage to decorate for Christmas last weekend, as on Saturday I came back from my volunteering half frozen and so tired I had to take a nap, and Sunday I spent the whole day decluttering and organising the house.I have decided to put up for sale a chair and foot rest I bought second hand 3 years ago, because it’s too big and the footrest has become a stacking pile of wool and crafty bits, and I’m sure I can find something much more suitable to store those things, and probably looking much less messy. I’ve listed it on the marketplace in local town sell and swap groups, but no one has contacted me yet, which is disappointing. If it doesn’t sell, I will bring it to a CS, but will have to find one that collects furniture, as there are not that many nearby.Today during my lunch break I went 4 times back and forth to the garage (it’s a long way… 2 flight of stairs up or down, round the corner to get out of the garden, across the street, get through the gate of the nearby garden, go through the garden and round the corner of the other block of flats, and finally there are the garages!) to bring down a few bits I had asked OH to bring there a few weeks ago, and every time I came back with a box of decorations. Ate my tomato soup and some cottage cheese after that, very quickly to be able to join a meeting in time. Am now looking at the beautiful sunset from my windows, and as soon as I finish work I will put up the tree and the decorations.Today was NSD #16, and I am grateful for the beautiful sunset, for having sorted a few more cluttery bits, and for it (finally!!!) be decorations day with suitable singalong 😁Debt free journey started 30/08/2023:

Totally agree they are warm and practical, but the sight of that row of buttons makes my lower spine vibrate in a very disturbing fashion. It is totally a 'me' problem.
Spent £5 on 14 gold baubles, 2 gold mirror stars, 4 golden apples, and 10 gold wicker birds. My tree looks great. Not a tinsel in sight. Charity shops are great.
The call for voluntary redundancy went out at DHs workplace yesterday. They need to cut 120 people. Trying to keep him on an even keel. If they don't get their 120 voluntarily, there will be compulsory ones in January.
Did sub £30 food shop. Payday is not til Monday for me.4/10/22One Year Mortgage Free Yay!

When I was little, I was forced to wear them (yes, I am that old). I hated the rubber buttons, they would always breakThankfully by age 7 or 8 I escaped them, so never had the saga of wearing the ones with suspenders
Maybe they really were before my time - they seemed to be a thing for very little children at that time (late 50s early 60s).
