Can’t believe we’re almost at the end of the year! I plan to continue saving next year even though I’m retired and still trying to find the balance between saving and spending.

How the year has gone by. Been very busy, but got a promotion at work in August which should help with extra income going forward and progression. Sorry for not updating these at the time!george4064 said:#24 declaring £660 for May!
#24 reporting:
June - £175
July - £760
August - minus £600
September- minus £2,000
October - £985
Had some work done to the windows over September which took a bit of a dent, and we've got a big trip to HK and Japan booked for early 2026 which we're very excited for. Naturally, both have taken a dent in savings but thankfully all positive!
EDIT: Just remembered that I increased my salary sacrifice pension contributions and have not been counting them towards my savings, this somewhat explains the lower figures. Something to think about next year and whether I start including those pension conts, maybe I just count the conts above and beyond what I put in for the max company match..
Interested to hear how or if others count their salary sacrifice contributions into these saving challenge?
P.S. Ironically, I think this thread flies under the radar a bit more (for me at least) since it become a pinned post this year. Strange!
Been gradually booking up travel/accommodation for our big trip in the new year, as well as bigger pension contributions means I'm running at a lower monthly figure.

#09 geordiejon reporting for november of £0
a lot of payments going out this month mostly on holidays for next year, will probably fall just short this year but its been fun and its good to know a lot have saved this year during these hard times.1 -
#50 t2rry declaring £1,340 for December please.
I will have another update at the end of the month due to Round Ups and other budget savings (
that's optimistic!) but for now, that puts me at £20,250, £250 over target!
For the extra boost that it is worth, I said at the start of the year I wouldn't include interest payments -
(I also didn't include Round Ups until I realised I could manipulate them to filter more money into our higher interest savings accounts, which thereby took some away from standard savings and felt unfair to not include from that point)
- Compared to where we stood at the end of December 2024, our savings are actually up £22,600, an additional £2,350 on the savings I have declared here, all from interest and investment uplifts, that feels like a lovely bonus to note.
Hope December treats everyone well, savings and otherwise.
