Half way through and half way to target, but starting to feel the pinch, nothing feels like it's getting any easier. Hope everyone else is doing ok :)

It does feel that way, doesn't it? I find it becomes more difficult in the Summer months because its halfway house which seems to drag on until we hit September when things seem to ease a little. I've often wondered if its day light length that makes it feel never ending!  :D:wink:

I find I spend much more on food in May, June and July. It's things like peaches, nectaries and strawberries. We eat loads of them! My housekeeping is at least £60 more than the winter veg period. I do grow lettuce, radish, tomatoes and cucumbers but they are so late this year. Well, the radishes aren't late, and I have plenty of lettuces housing lots of little slugs, but the nibbled nature makes them less appealing to be honest!
      Save £12k in 2026 #2 I have banked £9004.48 so far, against a £10k target The 2026 Save £12k in 2026 thread is here

I find summer easier than winter, I even find I sleep a lot better in summer than I do in winter, the long dark nights in winter seem to make my sleep patterns turn erratic and the whole season drags. Summer usually flies by though.

The opposite is true in my family, my granddad got an allotment the other year so recently we've been getting a load of his surplus fruit/veg during the summer months.

As for the slugs I've had some success with boiling a bulb of garlic in a pan of water and then adding a bit of this to a watering can full of water. The only downside with this method is that the cats are not impressed when you boil the garlic.

Ooo that's interesting how differently we all approach and feel things.

I'm managing summer better so far than last year, but then I still have my more spendy things to come (festivals etc). But I'm finding this year that my calculations for renewals and cost increases are way out. For example, my van insurance has gone up 25% when I thought it might actually reduce slightly :#

I haven't grown anything this year, been a bit lazy, should definitely get back on that
