Yes, well he only went in for day surgery! I could have bought the three day ticket on Friday as it was clear he would not be discharged over the weekend, but in the hope I would just be collecting (there is a free 20 minute window that allows for drop off and pick up) on Monday, I didn't. Oh well, I suppose it boosts their income and they certainly need that.

Hi all I am back with another update. Took out the £500 out of my regular saver as I wasn’t comfortable saving that account. Decided to save £150 a month in my new NatWest digital regular saver. Saved £150 (and £6.10 as I have round ups on so altogether saved £156.10 in May) I have also saved another £150 on 1st June this month so have now saved £306.10 altogether.
@MiwMiwCat maybe put your challenger number in your signature (via edit profile) so we can find you to update your savings in the spreadsheet more quickly, please
Sorry have just done that now

    #50 t2rry declaring £1,050 for June please

that puts me beyond 50%, which is great, but I fear we have a busy summer coming so lots of expenses and may only be able to save our minimum (this £1,050 until one of the regular savers ends, which will bring it down to £800) until September.  Fully appreciate 'only' being able to save £800-£1,050 per month is a nice position to be in but on current budgets I am going to end the year circa £3k shy of my target. We do have nominal pay rises expected at some point, which I haven't accounted for, but feel like I need to look for a boost somewhere, maybe have a purge of clothes/house stuff to sell on and start to chip away at that potential deficit, but we're already pretty minimal in terms of 'stuff' and clothes...I don't know, ideas welcome!!

I am retired, so maybe my daily ritual on weekdays, of checking the bank accounts and "Tilly tidying" would not work for you, but I have been emulating Tilly for years - essentially every transaction in your bank account is "tidied' to the next round figure, by moving the rest into a holding savings account. I often do £10 now, but it can be £1 if I am stretched, or up to £100 when the state pensions hit.

I cleared over £30k from our mortgage by doing this, and moving £1000 at a time to mortgage OP. I "batched" to OP £1k at a time in the mistaken belief that they would only recognise a capital OP over £1000 - a condition of our original mortgage that I wrongly assumed prevailed with the last one. I could have saved more on the mortgage interest, which was higher than the savings rate.

I also used to take advantage of 0% (£0 fee) CC offers and save the money in an interest bearing account, making the minimum payment only in the 0% interest period until it needed paying off (in full).

There are also some decent survey companies if you have time for this (personally I tried and stopped - too dull and my buying habits are not like most people's so I missed lots of retail ones).

I did buy a FB marketplace catering equipment cage and I sold the china and other surplus stuff on eBay, but it took 6 months to sell and we made maybe £300 profit - the amount of space was the biggest issue with that.

Anyway, a few ideas beyond what you have mentioned @t2rry

Echo the surveys suggesting if you have time (particularly Prolific if you can get on there). Another suggestion would be bank switching.
