Afternoon all............(((((((((((((((((((HUGS)))))))))))))) if you need one, have not read the thread yet..........
OH wanted to go to the lottie to check the rain fall for December and also to the library, so I decided that we would aslo go to Mr T's..............big mistake, the place was full of mothers with screaming kids and people blocking the aisles with trollies, I was so glad to get out, so thats January's grocery shop done £54.00......so if I put £15 on one side I should be able to put £15 in my US account.........
Its very dull and grey, tried to rain whilst we were out. The last of the gammon I cooked and sliced for supper tonight, with salad and jacket spuds, some apple and rhubarb crumble left for sweet.
Need to have a quick spruce up, OH's mother used to clean the whole house and do all the washing before Hogmany, they even put the fire out and re-laid it to light as the clock struck midnight. OH earned quite good dosh as a first footer, his hair, when he had some, was black............those days are long gome, I must admit I never wash on New Years Day, my Grand Mother used to say if you did you washed a life away............so I don't wash on New Years Day.
I'm off to do a flick with the duster.............see y'all later...................Was 13st 8 lbs,Now 12st 11 Lost 10 1/4lbs since I started on my diet.0 -
Afternoon all
Welcome to elle & sunny.
Another one here who doesn't do anything about New Year.
Christmas is definately over, all the food has been used up or frozen.
We're having Cottage pie with broccoli for tea, I have a list of the 30 meals we are having in January printed & on my notice board & I think all I need to buy is some bread, fruit & veg, so hopefully it will be a cheap month.
I need to check my pay when I go back to work as we have had a payrise & my money has gone down by £17 a month!!
I'm looking for a new lodger so I can nudge the current one out, I'm finding her too much like hard work.
I hope everyone has a good day.
Hugs Hester

Hi, thanks for all the replies re DD 'home alone' I will be working for 6 hours, but am literally at the top of our road, could be home in two mins, she is a sensible child, and will lock the house up and leave her with a key incase she needs to get out, she can make herself a cold lunch, sandwich, cheese and crackers etc. I have told her not to answer the door unless its me, OH or nan and g'dad, so we will try it on Wed and see how we get on, its horrible though 'my baby' is growing up
Thanks

Sorry to but in but i had the same problem about 4 years ago when i checked this out ,i found out that there is no legal age restriction on leaving children on their own as long as you think your child is sensible and capable of looking after themselves and that it is solely that child but it is illegal to leave any child under the age of 14 alone and responsible for any other children. Hope this makes sense like i say it was 4 years ago so it may have changed but at the time i was very thorough about getting the correct facts .

Hello!
Just popped in to ask those of you who suffer from bad migraines if it is normal for the doctor to phone up and arrange a follow up appointment, she wants to check that dd has got back all movement on her right hand side, her hand is still a bit weak, and dd is actually just starting another migraine attack but has taken her medication so fingers crossed. I know I am a dreadful worrier when it comes to my kids!.
Catz xOur days are happier when we give people a bit of our heart rather than a piece of our mind.

Hooray for you HESTER!!!!
Peony - My OH suggested we get a cleaner next year....that made me feel bad!
It's not that I don't have time, it's just that I can't really be bothered, I'ld much rather be on here.
I am off work today and tomorrow :j We had to take our cat to the vet this morning - she has a lump on her stomach (had it when we got her) and yesterday her back end seemed to be in a lot of pain. We were fearing the worst, thinking her lump would have turned cancerous and that we would have to have her put down...but no, £50 later and it turns out she is hyper-allergic to fleas, which have caused her anaemia and a skin infection. I am so so glad she is alright
. I will mark on the calender from now on when they need flea/worm treatment.
Paid the rent and got half a dozen fresh eggs from next doors chooks for £1. Yes they are more expensive, but its oh-so local (one of my NY resolutions). That said, I am not bothered about celebrating New Year - we are going to OHs friends tonight, but I am only going because it would be rude not to.
I am also pleased because I am only half as far into my overdraft as I expected to be after paying the rent (OH does not get paid until next week, so we had a slight cash flow problem).
So, today, I would like to:
[strike]- Do the washing up[/strike]
[strike]- Make chicken stock [/strike]
[strike]- Make banana bread[/strike]
[strike]- Make cottage pie for tea[/strike]
[STRIKE]- Flea the cats[/STRIKE]
[STRIKE]- Have a shower[/STRIKE]
If I have time
- Ironing
- Clean bathroom
- Sweep/mop kitchen
- Defrost freezer
- Freezer/cupboard inventory
Hope you all have a good day  andHAPPY NEW YEAR!!!

Afternoon all,
Hugs to all who are feeling down or who have had bereavements.
Redruby...if you are happy to leave your daughter and you are only 2 minutes away I think she will be fine...I know that in Ireland there is no legal age...just depends on the maturity of the child...you will know that better than most, you have made the rules and there are no younger children involved, so trust your judgement and your daughter...seriously scary the first time, but she will be fine.
Welcome to the newbies...I have been gobsmacked at the amount of help I have had here and the reductions I have made in our spending because of the advice available here...and while a few of us are a bit crazy we're nice crazy really!!
Doing very little here at the moment...tomorrow is the big day as I will not be out to-night and will have to get started on my new year new life to-morrow.

redruby DD sounds a sensible girl and you have thought this out well so I don't think you will have any probs at all. Of course, you will still worry yourself to death for the first few times.

WSM (very hard to abbreviate wannasavemoney - that's the best I can do.
) Sorry to hear you potentially have a big bill but at least your DH doesn't think its the end of the world - wish someone would make me a pyrex jug of tea.
catznine I suspect that your GP is being on the cautious side - which is no bad thing, especially if your DD is already beginning to suffer another migraine. Hope the medication kicks in before she starts to suffer too much.
HHester Let's hope you find the replacement *very, very* soon. She sounds a total nightmare. I would have her six feet under by now.
anniestar have you calmed down yet? Just take deep breaths and think of Mark King singing "Running in the Family".
Hope your back is better.
The emulsion painting is finished now. :j :j Only a little bit of glossing to do now and the room is finished!!! DS annoyed me today though. He was very good helping me yesterday but today he was just careless and splashed paint everywhere, kept rollering the same part of the wall
and generally messed about. He did apologise when I pointed out that I was giving up my holidays so that he could have a newly decorated room. So hopefully he will be better next time.
WM is on and I intend to get the ironing board out to do the uniforms while watching a very bad film on tv (Shall We Dance). My, how exciting is my life??
((((hugs)))) to all."Bad planning on your part does not constitute an emergency on my part."

Pen-Pin!!! hope you have a better night hun. Where did you get such a fantastic deal on the flowers?
BLAIRWEETCH One of our cats has a hyper sensitivity to fleas. Thank goodness for Frontline.
DH has finally finished all the marking. He made lunhc and we are now just chilling. I have put some stock on and thats about it. As for the clemintine cake recipe    NO idea where its gone to. I had it yesterday:eek: .Will get it off here and can be done tomorrow-failing that I will just eat them!:rotfl: :rotfl:
We also don't do New Year but have a great time to those of you that do. Will be back later. It looks really peaceful in here hte fire is on as are the lamps and 3 of the cats are on one sofa,Fergal is in "his"box, Phoebe is on the cat platform thing(thanks freecycle) and Rupert is sprawelled out i front of the fire. In the spirit of my being relaxed i am going ot have a drink of Limonchello:A de crema(YUMMMMMMM!!!!!!!!!!!!!!) bit early but my entire total booze intake this Christmas has been 1/2 of a bottle of beer and three small glasses of Cava(honest) so if my typing is worse than normal(hard to imagine I know!:rotfl: )then thats why.
Have a nice afternoon. CatOwen do let us know how you went on. Catch you later. Ann XXXXXX
EDIT::AnnieBooklover I will I REALLY will!!!Blind as you run...aware you were staring at the sun.
And when no hope was left inside on that starry starry night.
