OS Daily 31st December 2007

Hi, this is the Daily Thread for 31st December 2007. This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything OS and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an OS natter. The more the merrier!

When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem, we’re a laid back bunch here so you won’t hear any complaints. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.

Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “hi everyone, hope everyone’s well” type start does just as well.

Should auld acquaintance be forgot,
And never brought to mind?
Should auld acquaintance be forgot,
And auld lang syne?

For auld lang syne, my dear,
For auld lang syne,
We'll tak a cup of kindness yet,
For auld lang syne!

Oooooh, first time in ages that I've started the daily :D I've been up since 3am

Have you all got plans for tonight? I haven't, I always get bored at New Year's Eve parties. I also like to get up early the next day, there's no-one about and it's peaceful :D

I've got 2 loads of washing to do, I'll put the first load on in a mo. A quick hoover round, then I have the day to myself. Mr tru is working, the other trus will probably hang out with their mates. If there's no decent films on TV this afternoon, I might start reading the Harry Potter books again.

Hi.. hope you don't mind me joining in - I've never been part of the daily thread before!

Quickie intro - I'm 23, living with my partner, just the two of us and two goldfish. My new years resolution is to get organised and do more around the house. I've decided I've now officially moved into his house (he has sussed me, don't worry!) and I'm not just 'staying over' so I'm going to take on lots more of the housework and keep everything neat and tidy - finances included! I've joined the January Grocery Challenge and am trying to run down the cupboards and freezer contents so that I can fill them up with proper stocks like everyone on here seems to and get back into baking like my Grandma taught me!

I'm currently awake and sat by the phone as my boyfriend's dad was rushed into hospital with a suspected heart attack on Sunday evening. He's stable now but still in Coronary Care ICU. Boyfriend is sleeping as he's supposed to be in work tomorrow (we'll see!) :(

'morning Tru and all to post later :)

*edit to add hello to elle_gee :), welcome to the thread! Hope everything is OK for your boyfriends dad x. I don't post here too often, but I aim to do regular daily thread posts in the new year.*

I've also been up since 3ish - I can't sleep and have given up and come downstairs and put a load of washing on already!

I have some nibbles / HM pizza type stuff to make today and I have to get out to the shed and [strike]hide a couple of bottles of sloe gin[/strike]- get a couple of bottles of home made wine and sloe gin out for tonight - we have friends coming round to see in the new year and so will be in party mode later.

Other than getting ready for tonight it is the usual household stuff - get BM on, two or three loads of washing done etc. I want to get an inventory done of the cupboards and freezer as I am starting a couple of challenges from the boards tomorrow and it would be helpfull to know what food we have in, I know there is a lot crammed in that is leftover from my excessive Christmas buying so hopefully it should stretch our budget for a couple of weeks. I also have to go to Argos at some point to pick up a reservation for three of the kids birthday pressies - getting them now as they are half price in the sale and that will help with the Christmas / Birthday money neutral challenge.

I also hope to find an extra hour this morning to quickly go over our new year budget again, to check that figures all work out and nothing is forgotten - I was really tired when I originally did it and I'm not strong on maths at the best of times.

Hope everyone who is partying/celebrating has a great evening, and that those who aren't have a peaceful and quiet one!! Happy New Year, everyone :D

Oh, thankyou! That's what I could be doing right now... *trots off to find notepad and gloves to rummage in the freezer!*

Thank you also for the welcome :)

I'm amazed - I've found 11 nights worth of meals in the freezer, plus plenty of bread and desserts! We usually go to my parents one night a week so looks like we're okay for the next two weeks - phew! :D

Moving on to the cupboards next..

Wow, have you been productive with this silly time in the morning or what? I've been sat here drinking tea and surfing the net whilst listening to the washing machine working hard for me in the kitchen:D

Morning all from someone who has been MIA for most of the last week! I've either been ill or had visitors or, more often than not, both! I shall look back on this Christmas as being a blur and, for the first time that I can remember, I can't wait to get back to normal. Yesterday, the last of the visitors left in the morning and I must admit I was delighted to get the house back to just DH and me! I feel as if all my MSE OS'ing went out of the window over Christmas; a lot of food didn't get eaten because I was too ill to be bothered with it. Some leftovers got as far as the freezer but some of the stuff I had planned to do didn't get done at all and, please forgive me - I even had to bin some food.

I'm not sure when DH is back at work - being self-employed, he has to make a few phone calls to get up and running. He picked up a mild version of the bug that I had all over Christmas but it was enough to make him cancel a job he should have done on Friday.

We have no plans for tonight because we did a lot of socialising over Christmas which I found difficult being ill so it will just be the two of us and a bottle of wine. The New Year is lovely here because the fireworks in the area go on for ages and, being within earshot of the docks, we hear all the ships' horns blasting - it's very exciting and I love to stand in the front garden and listen to it all. All the neighbours come out with glasses of wine and there is such a warm glow everywhere. Seeing in the New Year is my favourite part of Christmas. I can't believe that it will be 2008 - the millennium seems to have been only yesterday! I hope everyone has a brilliant night - whatever you're doing or whoever you're seeing it in with, it's a special and hopeful time.

Welcome to ELLE-GEE - I know you'll enjoy it on this thread. I hope your BF's dad is recovering well.

Well, I'm going to make another cuppa, have a mooch on the other threads - I haven't had much time on MSE at all over the last week and feel my OS well and truly slipping so I need some inspiration. I have every intention of keeping my household manual up to date so may well start off today by doing a freezer and store cupboard inventory. I'm sure I have enough stuff to keep us going with minimal shopping for the next two weeks. I also have to look through my present stash to get organised for DGS's birthday on 20th January and DGD's on 23rd. I must admit I have overflow presents that I felt too ill to wrap up for Christmas - a lot of people didn't get all the gifts I had planned! I must also tidy up all the gift-wrapping stuff. I like to keep it really organised but this year, being ill and having to make up spare bedrooms for visitors, it all got shoved into boxes under beds.

Well, will drop in later and will try and keep up with the thread now that I'm feeling better. I hope everyone else who has been ill is now well and truly over it and that you all have the happiest, healthiest and wealthiest New Year.

It gets worse.. I've just gone through the cupboards and found we have all the ingredients for all the meals I can make from the freezer so even less need for a trip to Tesco! :D

I wanted to keep awake.. if we needed to dash to the hospital I'd rather already be up than be suddenly woken and dragged out of bed - I'm not a morning person! ;)

Going to make DP a cuppa now :)

Morning to all the recent risers! :hello:

Good morning everyone. Welcome elle_gee. Hi oldmcdonald, Tru, mioliere and everyone who follows. An early morning for me today. Got to go with OH this morning to sort his car out as it wouldn't start the other day so we just left it where he works!!! Hopefully it won't be too expensive. Had a fairly quiet christmas this year. OH and myself have had colds for most of it. Looking ofrward to the new year... I can have a lie in and mooch round the house for the day-hopefully not nursing the mother of all hangovers!!
Guess I ought to get organised (and that in itself will be an achievement as we are never organised)!!! must get that sorted in the new year. Hope to do a store and freezer inventory in the next couple of days.
No doubt i will be back later!!!
