Money Moral Dilemma: Would I be stealing my brother's inheritance by caring for our mum?

  • Whatever you do needs open communication between all the parties. If one thinks they are losing their inheritance they can volunteer to swap places to gain more of the inheritance but greater caring responsibilities, and I suspect their offer would be accepted..

The easiest way would be to accept mum going into a care home and then if anything is left at the end it can be divided equally. My mum is in a care home locally and I manage to visit even briefly on most days to keep up her morale (tempting her with stuffed olives, home grown apples and other tasty bits)  and my sister abroad visits when she can. We both worry about our mum, and it is stressful even when you know she is being cared for. Worrying may be natural but doesn't get you anywhere, but mum knows she is loved by both of us and I think that's the most important thing.

Undertaking the 24 hour personal care would have been beyond me, I'm afraid.
