Once that pays out then I should be eligible to take the donor account to Halifax or Nationwide next time they run switch offers as I was only slightly ineligible the most recent time based on my previous switch dates. I've started opening Nationwide accounts for the possibility of a Fairer Share bonus and hopefully under the next offer they will let me switch into the new existing account.0 -
Account switch done.
Deposit made
Two credit card DDs are set up on it.
I have the card in my virtual wallet
I'm registered with online banking
So just 10 transactions needed ....this is going to be annoying, even if I'm just buying 10 items in Lidl. But I'll do it.
I saw something earlier in the thread about penny transactions or something which I didn't quite understand. But any top tips would be gratefully received.0 -

People are rich because they spend less money. A poor man buys $10 boots that last a season or two before he's walking in wet shoes and has to buy another pair. A rich man buys $50 boots that are made better and give him 10 years of dry feet. The poor man has spent $100 over those 10 years and still has wet feet.

However, for the MSE purpose of spending as little as possible while getting the reward from the bank, 10x debit transactions at a supermarket for the cheapest items that are of use may be better. Carrots at Sainsbury's are 69p a kg loose, or essentially 7p per 100g, find a carrot weighing less than 20g gets you a 2p transaction. I found Sainsbury's Christmas biscuit packs were listed as 19p but came up on the scanner as 6p so that was easy and some fun for the officeSam Vimes' Boots Theory of Socioeconomic Unfairness:

Re supermarket spend, I guess the advantage of using things on the debit card list is you are literally sending the money to yourself in a lot of cases, from the comfort of your own home, although there is a certain rigmarole to then drawing it back to your main bank account I know.0 -
