Very frustrating hour long call with HSBC which didn't really go anywhere. Had to read the T&C to the call hander several times. They seemed to be convinced of the following:

    1. The cut off for the months cashback is the date of your credit card statement, not the end of the calender month.
    2. To qualify you have to have made a MINIMUM of £500 worth of qualifying transactions in that month.
    3. To qualify you have to have made at least 1 of each of the three types of purchases (groceries, fuel, transport) - so if you only have grocery transactions, you don't qualify.

I know for a fact no. 3 is incorrect because I made no purchases for transport in November, but still relieved the cashback. And the other two claims see dubious to me. Doesn't seem to tally with the wording on the T&Cs. Can anyone confirm?

After several minutes of back-and-forth and him disappearing on hold randomly, the whole argument suddenly changed to 'you didn't opt-in to the offer!' - I have a screenshot of the offer acceptance so i can prove otherwise.  Eventually they offered to log a complaint for me. I just wanted the call to end at this point so just said yes. I am dubious that any complaint was submitted but at this point I'm struggling to justify spending any more energy on chasing down £15 of cashback!

Terms and conditions below - nothing about a minimum £500 spend or to have made at least 1 of each of the three types of purchases, and nothing about card statement dates being the cutoff for calculating cashback - so whoever was telling you that - point them to this:

And I haven't had a penny yet - although opted in - and made the qualifying transactions - I've contacted customer support several times, and they've now said end of December. They keep moving the goalposts, but not solving the problem.

Yeah, same here. I keep getting told different things (even by the same person!) Communication is really bad.
  • The whole thing is so confusing. I spent £497 on qualifying purchases, but have been given £41 cashback. Their customer service people do not know what is going on.

£26.51 cash back last month and £50 this month (where I've used it more). I have to say its an excellent offer and would be great if they kept it going...

I received cash back for this month £50 (paid on 11th). For those that haven't, you have your statements, once the deal has ended, I'd expect HSBC to pay up if you sent them evidence that you made payments and they haven't paid out. My first one was £35 paid on 16th Nov.

So I guess that's that, at least for the time being. Was great while it lasted. Now just need to remember to stop using the HSBC card until such time as they come up with another, ideally similar, offer.

Yes, that’s it for now. I’m back to using my Chase Debit Card and Halifax Cashback Credit card, for the time being.

Same, except I still have about three weeks left to earn a final £15 cashback @ 5% on my Amex Platinum Cashback card before going down that route. I was however pleasantly surprised to see that my Halifax card had recently been credited with £15 cashback.

Yes, Halifax credited £19.22 in my account on New Year’s Eve  :)
