Just received an email from HSBC offering 10% cashback for 3 months on groceries, fuel and UK travel (up to £50 per month) with my Visa credit card. 5 purchases or more on the above will be required too.

Keep an eye out for an email as you have to opt-in by the 30th September 2024.

You probably have to be an existing customer, other T&Cs apply.

You definitely will, as it's for invited customers only. Wonderful timing though, I've just cleared down the balance on an HSBC card which was used for a 0% balance transfer. £135 extra I hadn't expected.

Unfortunately what qualifies as 'groceries' is a little vague. I asked on live chat whether Costco would be included and I got a slightly unconvincing 'yes'.

I've got this offer too - but my version only requires three transactions to qualify

I'm jealous mine asks for 15. I guess this is a pretty standard offer but purchase count is based on your usage.

    Ah right. 👍🏻

Yes, the T&C PDF eligibility states "You’ll also need to have made a set number of qualifying purchases on your card each calendar month to start earning cashback. You can find details of this threshold in the message we sent inviting you to opt in."

Once I clicked to opt in, the webpage url stated I need a minimum of 5 transactions per month:

There is a PDF showing what qualifies but as you say it's a little vague:

I've never shopped at Costco but if it's classed as a discount store then it won't qualify, according to the above T&C.

It's definitely not a discount store. Barclaycard describes it as 'Buying/shopping Services'. My gut instinct is that it won't count, but the fuel will.
  • 3 transactions for me.

I will make use of this to top-up/purchase the various supermarket Christmas saving cards in October and early November.
  • I also found what counts a little vague. I only need to make 3 transactions.
I’d be surprised if Costco counts.
It also mentions online grocery shopping and convenience stores. Does this mean in store supermarket purchases count?
I’ll give it a go anyway, using as much as I can upto £500 for each month.
  • 3 transactions for me too, glad I saw this thread as might have missed this as don’t use my HSBC card very often
    Best Regards,
