i'm pretty sure they give the option to do away with the need for the card reader if you let the app take a live photo of you? i seem to remember seeing it as an option when i was asked to use the reader last week for the 1st time in an age.
I've registered on the app and can move stuff around fine internally, as it's a new payee I have to use the web service but it just says they cannot verify me and to call them. I cannot see an option to add a card reader nor can you add it in app even with biometrics.

That said, I just tested it again in app and it will let me in app if I have the card and can put it in the card reader so might be possible without going to the bank

People are rich because they spend less money. A poor man buys $10 boots that last a season or two before he's walking in wet shoes and has to buy another pair. A rich man buys $50 boots that are made better and give him 10 years of dry feet. The poor man has spent $100 over those 10 years and still has wet feet.

Not sure if relevant, but when I did a NW account transfer (last year), I also made use of the savings account they offered. My husband who also transferred to NW at the same time didn't use the savings account and so wasn't eligible for an unexpected payout to 'eligible customers' earlier this year, where 'eligible' people were those who had current AND savings accounts with them. Worth noting maybe, as my transfer to NW has made me £300

The terms last year were the same as the year before for Fair Share - it worked out quite well for me with the 5% interest and Kroo dropping rates to motivate me to switch, so the £500 in a month is easy, £100 in regular saver is done (though I would think maybe having a bit more is a good idea), and spend 2-3x a month every month for the new few months - even just a couple of bananas on the self scan - and if they do it again, should get it

If you have a card reader from any bank (Natwest Group, Barclays, Co-op/Smile etc) it'll work. You might be able to nip in to a branch and use or borrow one too.
Yes, I remember that worked, but honesty chucked them all when I switched from Nationwide a few years ago. I didn't think they'd still be a thing considering no other banks mandate them for internet banking
  • I failed the hard credit check with this one. Nationwide advised I visit my nearest bank (an hour away by bus) with ID.
I've opened 5 accounts this year so this hard credit check failure was a surprise.
    From September 2008 - Wepromiseto £133.19, Greasypalm £46.16, Quidco £519.78, Cashback Kings £74.54. Vouchers £31.00. myhpf £21.03
Topcashback £159.72 Matchbetting £24.70 MORTGAGE FREE END OF JULY 2015 (YIPPEE!)
    Bank Switching £640.00
  • Hi all,
I'm looking to make this switch, but I'm not familiar with switching so would like to check something with you wise heads  It's not clear from the T&Cs if the switch must be requested during the application process or if the account can be opened and the switch requested later, does anyone know how these have worked in the past and can share please?
    Cheers

You can give switch information during process
or apply as an existing customer which ever suits
  • With the former Fairer Share payments, are debit card transactions classed as payment from account? I expect they would but  better to ask.

Anyone tried to open a new NBS account today? I've been trying all day, part way through the application the website goes to a page not found error every time. 😥
