Only thing I’m finding a slight pain right now is waiting for my online banking details to come through the post so I can start the switch as I didn’t do it while I was applying for the new account as my direct debits wasn’t setup on my dummy account at the time, will make sure they are in the future as it definitely delays things slightly.

I've just gone to do this switch and on the Nationwide website it says,

"Note:  To get the 12-month interest and cashback offers, you'll need to pay in at least £1,000 each month. Not counting transfers from other Nationwide accounts or Visa credits.

You won't get the offers if you've had a FlexDirect account before. But you will get the offers on a new joint account, as long as you have not shared a FlexDirect account with that person before."

The terms for receiving the bonus on the main TCB article say “You can't have switched into a Nationwide account, or have received switch cash from Nationwide, since 18 Aug 2021”, which contradict what is on the Nationwide site. When I started doing the switch offers about this time last year, a Nationwide FlexDirect account was the account I switched out of and closed, and I had been with them for years (maybe 13 or so), so I have definitely never had a witch bonus from them, and certainly not since 18th August 2021. However, according to what is on the Nationwide website, it appears I’m not eligible for a switch bonus anyway.

Can anyone clarify which terms are correct and If I could still get a switch bonus? Thanks in advance!

EDIT - looking at the terms on the Nationwide site again, I think that the "cashback" it refers to is the 1% cashback on spending, rather than the reward money. Can anyone confirm this? It's been a while since I've done a switch and I know the wording can sometimes trip people up! Thanks again!

Yep, different offers. Cashback eligibility and switching/reward cash eligibility are separate.

I did think this afterwards, seems I'm rusty! Thanks for the clarification!

Following on from my previous message, I've just tried to open an account and it says I am already a member. I was a member with Nationwide for many years, and around this time last year I did my first switching bonus and switched from them to Lloyds using CASS (as required), and I assumed that this closed my account. For some reason my details are still active on their website, except my mobile number is wrong (even though I've had this number for ages so apparently I hadn't updated it on Nationwide for ages!), but I have forgotten most of my log in details. I assume I can use the banking app to log into to whatever is left there and change my details (obviously can't get a code by text), but will I stil be eligible for the switch bonus if my reboot my old account, even though I thought it had been closed? Does anyone know how long Nationwide hold onto your information and keep an old account available, as I've just loked and I requested the switch to Lloyds on 13th Novemeber 2023, so if they only hold it for a year then could I wait a few more days before opening a brand new account? All my switches to date have been to new banks that I havent ever had an account with before, this is my first attempt at going back to a bank I've been with before so I'm not sure of the rules and procedures regarding going back. Thanks in advance!

Only Nationwide can confirm if you qualify - read the terms and conditions - they normally say you can't get anything if you have had a bonus since xtz date, they often can apply for existing members. I had the same as a member previously when opening a flex account and eventually got back into the app ok but I wasn't trying to switch

Sam Vimes' Boots Theory of Socioeconomic Unfairness:

People are rich because they spend less money. A poor man buys $10 boots that last a season or two before he's walking in wet shoes and has to buy another pair. A rich man buys $50 boots that are made better and give him 10 years of dry feet. The poor man has spent $100 over those 10 years and still has wet feet.

When I signed up for a new account for the switch offer  I was also told I was an exciting member (I left Feb this year) I still had my old details so logged it but no account showing.  Waited a good week and still no account showing. Turned out they had sent me a totally different new membership number, when I used the new  number the account was showing.
I would just go ahead and open the account and expect a new membership number.

  • They did a similar thing to me, opened new account and got a new customer number even though I've been with with, as my main bank account, for more than 20years...

Thanks for the replies everyone! I've opened an account today and started a switch, I have a card and pin and the way and I think I have the same membership number as last year. I'm going to wait until my card arrives before doing anything else.

Anyone know if they will automaticall send you a new card reader when opening a new account, or rather signing back up after previously being with them? As I switched out my account last year I got rid of the card reader. If they don't automatically send one then there is a banch not too far away and I could go get one, just wondered whether to expect one in the post.
