  • Monavate just got back with reassurance that my WeSwap money is safe and to fill out a form to start the refund process. Fingers crossed. Thank you Forum!
  • I think Monavate have sent an email to all WeSwap customers, with a link to the refund form. However, it asks for the value of funds that you want refunded and the currency. I have some £ and € and I want it all refunded, but I don't know the precise values as I can't access the WeSwap app!
  • I am in exactly the same situation as you Golactico. I am unsure of the amount I have on the card, and I can't log in as I am not getting the security text from the app.
  • I was very confused to receive an email from Monovate and nearly sent it to spam because I'd never heard of them. It was only a search on this forum that helped me work out it was actually about WeSwap

I'm now in the same position as others, with a form from Monovate to fill in but no way to check how much was in my account. Thankfully I don't think it was much because I hadn't used WeSwap for ages.
  • I have also had a problem and i have contacted my bank and started a charge back request. I have now been refunded my money by the bank.
  • Hi all, thanks for your comments on this thread.

We were concerned by these reports so we've been looking into the issue for the past week. We've struggled to get any response WeSwap or Monavate (which provides the underlying tech as some of you are aware). Mastercard and Visa both told us that Chargeback unfortunately can't be used to get your money back in this situation.

We got in touch with the FCA, which told us that Monavate's ex-client Manigo went into administration on 2 September 2024. Manigo hosted software that facilitated the use of WeSwap's pre-paid travel card, resulting in the recent issues.

The FCA said: “We are actively engaging with Monavate on this issue. If you are having issues accessing your funds or require a refund you should contact Monavate directly. If any WeSwap customer requires immediate access to their funds a refund can be processed by emailing support@monavate.com."

BBC Watchdog also recently reported on this and got a statement from WeSwap suggesting that it's trying to resolve the issues. We do hope this is the case.

  • I have e mailed Monavate twice as the form we are asked to submit for refunds is not fit for purpose. Weswap was a multi currency platform of which I had currency in 3 denominations. In addition, like others who have posted, I don't know the amounts of each currency as hadn't been able to log in to Weswap recently.
The other major issue is that our refund, if we ever succeed, will be returned to us at the exchange rate of the day they return it to us, hence we will lose the gains as I swapped my currency for euros and dollars when it was a good exchange rate. This issue hasn't been addressed in any communication by Monavate, nor have I received a response to my 2 e mails so they are not gladly guiding me through the process as they state in their e mail.
Has anyone had any response to queries etc?

  • I unfortunately deleted the email from Monavate as had never heard of the company and thought it was spam.  Have submitted to claim forms, one for USD and one for Sterling, fortunately do know the approximate amounts.

Like many a case of fingers crossed.
  • I have similar problems and do not know the precise amount in the account as I always used the app to check. I emailed WeSwap and had this response:
Following the failure of Manigo and termination of the card service by Monavate, the WeSwap app and cards are currently not available.
We are actively working with both parties to arrive at a solution to return the services to you.

In the meantime, your funds are safeguarded by Monavate and if you wish to have your money returned please visit Monavate refund( can’t post link as new on this site
  • When I completed the form, I simply stated 'full refund of all funds held in EUR and GBP'. I will let everyone know if I have any success.
