NST September 2024: A Turtle soap opera

Hello turtles, I haven't checked in for a while. I had a good run of NSDs this week, so I'm on 3, very good for me. A bit of a mixed week otherwise, lots of ups and downs with falling out and then making up with housemate, trying to get back into the routine after summer and doing my new commute out to the sticks. Have to say I was hating it during the week, but I think the weekends will make up for it... I've had a lovely day so far, it's so nice being able to see a bit of greenery and hear birds!
I had a pretty positive meeting with the bank as well this week. I do need to save more deposit, but I am quite possibly only a year away from where I want to be. Next on my list is to speak with some of the other banks that are participating in the programme.
Today I spent the morning helping housemates clean a pair of dirty radiators, then we gave the dog a wash on the driveway and I used the pressure washer to get rid of the hair, which then blew mostly downhill into the pool. I had a chuckle but don't think housemates were amused... I spent a good while fishing it out with the net..... I can concur about cleaning a big house being a burden @abundant1972 (my housemates new house, it's not mine) While it is lovely, the cleaning seems neverending, and this isn't even a particularly big house, just bigger that we're used to (been living in tiny flats for the last 15 years or so).
I am grateful for the dog's antics, for being able to have a swim, for fresh air.

DS2 phoned early on. He and my grand-daughter were just on their way to football but he suggested they could come and collect me this afternoon and we could go for a meal and to the country park. I spent the morning filling bin bags and moving tins of food into cupboards - the shelves need moving so the unit that's going can come out. Took 3 books back to the library (it's food fest day but this time they left the disabled ramp free - last time one of the stall holders helped lift my walker over the barrier and I got round via the flowerbed).
Was picked up around 2.30pm, we went to the pub where DS2 used to work. Grand-daughter loves he koala so I had taken a photo of me at her age with my koala. She wanted a story so DS2 read the 2 I'd taken with me and I'd also found another story/ song token whilst clearing up. She can now run and jump (demonstrated whilst we waited for food).
We ate, Ds2 spoke to some people he used to know and grand-daughter made friends with a husky cross (20% wolf). We went to the country park and grand-daughter loved it. We had ice creams, fed the birds (swans, ducks, gulls and moorhens mainly)on the flash. I had taken a bag of wild bird seed. They have chopped down some mature trees so there were chunks of 3' to 4' diameter tree trunks which she enjoyed. She didn't want to get in the car to go home so we will definitely be going back/ I'd taken a paper bag to collect leaves but the ones on the ground were boring -mid brown and shrivelled but they've taken home the card, glue, brush and glue pot to make pictures when we do collect leaves.
Very tired and my feet are slightly sore, just going to watch my series and read my books
Grateful for a lovely day out, getting some boring work done, the late afternoon sunshine that came out from behind the clouds.

Today I am grateful for a fresh start every month, for seeing old friends, for more rasps waiting to be picked and chomped, for Pip enjoying time with a friend, for my gym buddies.

Self-Acceptance for Self-Care – Choose. Change. Refresh. Reboot.
Self-Care and Self-Acceptance have been buzzing keywords for a while. Instagram posts, social media are loaded with reels on proclamation of self-love through the clips of their travel, clothes..etc; the external extension of the self.
However the void in this self-love is created when internally, one belittles one’s own journey and achievements by comparing it with the success of someone else. Often, a large part of one’s lifetime goes by, leading a life waiting to be applauded or appreciated by others.
Hence the frenzy for likes of their posts on social media.
How does one embrace oneself fully? The key lies in being empathetic towards one-self by developing self-acceptance.
So what is Self-Acceptance?
It’s an unconditional acceptance of the self; being grateful and content with how one looks, feels, behaves; without having the critical self-talk.
It’s easier to unconditionally love others or accept others, but we forget to embrace the most important entity – ourselves.
Without accepting myself how do I accept others? Without loving myself, forgiving myself, how do I love and embrace others? Self-Acceptance is a total acceptance of who we are, what we look like and feel like.
When the lens of self-love is set, you learn to respect yourself and that opens the door of self-improvement with onus and self-responsibility. Without embracing and recognizing something is broken, how can we think of repairing or improving it?

Good evening 🌒Hugs Shrewbie for the never-ending cleaning 🤣
Had a busy day yesterday - met with a friend for some lunch, explored a few new places, and tried a few things I haven't done in years. Was totally outside my comfort zone - but coped better than I imagined I would. Spent quality time with family today, and a quiet evening in.
Yesterday/Today I am grateful for:
1) New experiences
2) My parents, siblings and extended family
3) My little flat 💗 and retreat from the World
Today = NSD number 4
Looking forward to reading more on self acceptance this week apple... Thanks for the articles.
See you all tomorrow x⭐ DEBT FREE : 18/02/2025 ⭐

A plodding day. Some more things have been sorted and are out ready for collection. Many bags have been filled and binned/ recycled. I'm somewhat dispirited because it's been a horrible wet day and it made me slow. I'm worried that I may not get all the things I want to go, out in time. I have more pieces of damaged wood but there are things on top of them and in the way and I couldn't get to them.
Grateful for all the things that did get done and the things I found, making clear decisions on some things that came from mum's and hadn't made it out of the bags they came in (some things that were in her shed that I really didn't know what to do with - the old paint will go to grandma's house and I'm going to leave a note to tell my brother to take it to the paint collection point at the tip not far from his house). Glad to find my big lever arch file and DS3's key (at last). The broken glass has been collected, well wrapped and disposed of. I'll be okay once I've had another good night's sleep.8 -
Can I be a new cast member for September please?
It's my first time here so sorry if I dont get it right!!!
So I am just about to start my second year at uni and I'm between student loan payments at the moment. I just had to ask my mum to sub me over 1k until my payment goes in and then I have to pay her back. I feel like I spend my whole life chasing my tail when it comes to money, even before uni, so I'm trying really hard to start my second year of uni with a new resolve.
So here goes. Today was my first NSD of the month.
Three things I am grateful for today are:
1. The smiles and laughs my youngest brought to my face
2. My mum, for being there for me when times are desperate
3. Having full cupboards
That was actually quite hard to think of. I might try to have my eyes more open to good things!

Just a quick post before I go to bed. Last couple of days have spent time with brothers, sister-in-law and nieces. Also done a bit of admin work and we’ve sorted through some stuff in the kitchen and have a large plastic recycling bag full of unwanted canisters. Will be taking them over to one of my brothers tomorrow for him to see if he wants any of them, as well as some plastic sleeves which he needs for some home admin. Also decluttered a couple of unwanted box files to him on Friday.Tomorrow is my last full day off before I start having to work part-time until Mum’s funeral, so needs to be a productive day. I have several phone calls I need to make, washing, sorting through washed clothes and distributing to appropriate bedrooms, prepping and freezing some veg from the fridge, taking stuff over to brother (as mentioned above), and need to prep my desk ready to work on Tuesday.
I’m thankful for a lovely phone call with one of my aunts this evening, full of lots of stories and reminiscences, spending time with my nieces and decluttering some unwanted/unneeded items.

Good luck with your second year. 😊Are you taking advantage of all the student discounts and support that you can? @LadyWithAPlan, is pretty good at these kinds of things 😊 Be worth you having a read of her thread. The gratitude habit is like a muscle - the more you use it, the stronger it gets 😊

Waste Wizards are coming tomorrow between 2 pm and 4 pm. This is good because I'm exhausted now (so much done, just start filling the next bin bag when I finish one). Decided not to attempt getting the cube storage out from under the stairs but started dismantling it in situ (one long side unscrewed and the backing panels prised off with the crowbar). Hoping DS3 can get it out now as it's lighter (back up plan is hitting it with hammer and crowbar, kicking it (DS3 - more stomping on it and breaking bits off).
Bits from round the yard have been gathered - found 2 more broken planters, some washing that was blown off the line months ago and has been wedged behind things, more bits of old cardboard (to the bin) and odd 'poles' - 1/2 a clothes prop, bits that are meant to help unblock grids (not doing that any more). More old paint (mostly from mum's but a couple of mine too) has been collected to go to grandma's house). Odd bits of wood, plastic and metal (a bit from an old electric fire) and a drill, sander and jigsaw (not been used in ages, I won't be using them again so they aren't going to take up space any more). The place across the road has a skip and a man comes to pick over it each morning so I might ask him to come round to the back and check over my rubbish too (probably looking for metal items).
Swept part of the kitchen and then stuffed rubbish into the bin bag from the front room. I have 2 bags for the cans and bottles bin (one is mostly old spice jars - I emptied the rack and dumped all the old ones, we have full ones somewhere). the spice rack and 2 saucepan lid racks are in a large cs bag along with spare light bulbs for fittings that are going and useful items (various hooks). I should have one or two bags for the food bank and then I can start on the book cull again once I have more floor space.
Grateful for getting things done, lots of rest breaks, feeling less burdened.11
