Tomato Energy (Electric Only Supplier) - Too Good To Be True ?

Do you mean a way other than the meter reading history section on the app that contains every monthly index read from when a bill was generated regardless of whether you were on a smart tariff or not? Granted, it's not daily, but if you want daily reads for a specific reason like switcing, the common sense thing to do would be to read it yourself.Telegraph_Sam said:@Boohoo. This has been my long standing criticism of the Octopus system: That it has not been possible to check meter readings directly from the site but only indirectly by interpolation or whatever.

I don't know how these energy companies get away with it.Telegraph_Sam said:@Boohoo. This has been my long standing criticism of the Octopus system: That it has not been possible to check meter readings directly from the site but only indirectly by interpolation or whatever. This leaves a gap for misunderstandings when it comes to sorting out discrepancies - which should never happen but in practice always do.I wonder sometimes how to get Octopus to plug this gap, and in the interim what the least fiddly way round the problem is.
Mywatts has Friday reading higher on Friday and today that reading is more than the meter today.
I have not put a reading into Mywatts as I don't want to confuse them.
Octopus will blame Tomato and Tomato will blame Octopus for the incorrect readings.0 -
Any idea what's going on with all the failed tomato switches? Looking on the Facebook group, there must be hundreds of them and Tomato are blissful unaware of the automatic £40 compensation for failing to switch within 5 working days so most of them will now be owed an additional £40.1

If you have switched to Tomato from Octopus, then why would Octopus have any business knowing about the readings recorded by Tomato (correct or otherwise) for dates after your supply with Octopus ceased?Boohoo said:Octopus will blame Tomato and Tomato will blame Octopus for the incorrect readings.0 -
If they are blissfully unaware now, then that won't last much longer as I'm sure some of them will know enough to start claiming the compensation.Bendo said:Any idea what's going on with all the failed tomato switches? It's baffling but they are definitely unaware, or electing to bury their head in the sand.

His views don't necessarily represent those of the people responsible for compliance. I believe he previously stated that he doesn't think a meter reading is needed for change of supply, yet his company would beg to differ, putting the requirement to supply one into their T&C.As I said, when customers start claiming the missing compensation, the penny will surely drop if it hasn't already.1

Octopus gave me a bill upto and including the last day with them and used smart meter read.
A few days later I get a bill for 1 days use 10/02/25 for 47 units using a non smart meter reading.
I was with Tomato starting 10/2/25 which I gave the same meter reading as the one Octopus used.
I got an email reply from Octopus saying Tomato have the higher reading and used that to send me another bill.0 -
It surprises me that TE's CEO is posting about personally being in Cameroon promoting TE's Tomatopia solution for that nation.
I would have thought he has enough on his plate closer to home right now and this is where his focus should be.1
