Octopus gave me a bill upto and including the last day with them and used smart meter read.
A few days later I get a bill for 1 days use 10/02/25 for 47 units using a non smart meter reading.
I was with Tomato starting 10/2/25 which I gave the same meter reading as the one Octopus used.
I got an email reply from Octopus saying Tomato have the higher reading and used that to send me another bill.So you gave Tomato the 09/02/25 smart reading Octopus took rather than a reading taken on 10/02/25? You wrote in your earlier post that you have not put any readings into MyWatts, so would that include this reading (i.e. you provided this reading via email or telephone)? All change of supply readings go through a validation process where they are checked for reasonableness using your estimated annual consumption (seasonally adjusted). So a reading can come out of that process different. Zero usage for that last day with Octopus might trigger that. The issue you then have is that Tomato only use HH readings for billing, so if the CoS reading is higher than it was at midnight on your switch date, you could end up being charged twice for the same units of energy. TBH I think you'll have more joy applying pressure to Octopus on the grounds 47 units is way above your typical consumption in one day and to have burned through that you'd have had to do something pretty spectacular (assuming your usage typically is much lower). The readings you mentioned on Friday and today are irrelevant to that, and should not be sent to Octopus.0 -

I have only given 1 reading to Mywatts.
The 47 units difference was for the 1 days electric plus 1 day s/c.
The bill upto switch has the correct days of s/c on it so I don't know why I have to pay 1 extra day when I am with Tomato who will also charge me for that day.
I have not sent any readings to Octopus as last reading used in bill was smart meter reading and the bill for 1 days use was reading that was not smart, from me or estimated reading according to the bill.

I have not sent any readings to Octopus as last reading used in bill was smart meter reading and the bill for 1 days use was reading that was not smart, from me or estimated reading according to the bill.Tomato will charge you for usage from 10/02/25 onward. Since they bill using half hourly consumption data, it is not possible for them to do otherwise. They are not entitled to charge you for usage on 09/02/25. The smart reading Octopus took on 09/02/25 covers your usage up to the end of 08/02/25 as it is the reading taken at 09/02/25 at 00:00 before any energy is used on the 9th.The 47 units is an estimate of what you used on 09/02/25, because presumably you did not use 0 on that day. I think it is unlikely you actually used 47 units, so the true answer is somewhere in between. Is there any reason why you did not take an actual reading at the start of the day on 10/02/25 and instead used the 09/02/25 reading? You would be in a stronger position with a concrete reading, preferably backed up by a photograph of the meter showing the reading.2 -

I mentioned in my posts on Friday that due to back injury i was not able to get under the stairs cupboard to take a photo.
I got the bill at 7am and when checked the hub it showed 2 units more than the Octopus bill reading so as it was 8am when I checked I assumed the 2 units more was for 8 hours electric.

Because Octopus could not have taken a reading on the 10th if they were no longer your supplier. Otherwise that suggests you used 2 units over 32 hours, which does not sound likely. Octopus always takes a smart reading as close to the start of the day in question. What was the date beside the "Smart meter reading" on your most recent bill? Were you on a tariff like Agile or Tracker with a daily breakdown? If so, what was the last day they charged you for? When I received the "We're sorry to see you go" email from Octopus, they got the date wrong and said "you'll be switching to them from 6th January 2025" when in fact my actual switch date was 7th Jan. So perhaps that is where some confusion has arisen. To be clear, I was not charged by Tomato for 6th Jan, only from 7th onward. Tomato stated the correct switch date in their communications to me.1 -

I'm arriving late in this discussion @Boohoo and haven't read all the previous replies.
Do you have or can you sign up to the free Bright App? If so, you can download your half hourly meter readings from the Glowmarkt website.
If you know the actual meter readings at a given time/day from the 10th Jan, or even months before, then by using the half hourly Bright/Glowmarkt usage data, you should be able to work out the actual meter readings at any half hourly point thereafter by adding the half hourly consumption data to the previous meter readings.
You just need to check the Bright/Glowmarkt data carefully to make sure there are no missing half hourly data points.0 -

I my 1st post I did ask if there is a way of getting meter readings but I got a reply saying not possible. If it were then I coul help me.You'll be able to see your past meter readings on the Octopus app, but also in your monthly statements. As you were on the Tracker tariff, you will see a daily breakdown in your statement received on switch day. Based on everything you've shared, this statement will have a reading dated 9th Feb, which I am confident will have been taken just after midnight (i.e. at the very start of the day). Your bill will contain daily charges up to and including the 8th Feb, but not 9th Feb. The meter reading will be used as the reading for the end of 8th Feb.Nothing will have been charged for 9th Feb. That will have been in your final bill. Since you've said that you read your meter at 8am on 10th Feb, and it was only 2 units higher than Octopus' smart reading used for the end of 8th Feb, you either had an incredibly low usage over the next 32 hours, or there is something wrong with one of those two readings. Is it possible you could have actually used only 2 units over 1.3 days? What you actually need is a source of your consumption on 9th Feb. Unfortunately Octopus won't have that, as they typically lose access to the meter during the evening before the switch. Tomato won't have it as they don't get access until it is taken away from Octopus, but you might have some joy with Bright or Loop as they will pull data from the last 18 months. If you know exactly how much you used on the 9th, you can verify whether the reading you took is consistent with the one Octopus took, and this might help as you turn your attention to the 47 unit estimate and how to deal with that.1
