Tomato Energy (Electric Only Supplier) - Too Good To Be True ?

Unless Ofgems guidance is backed up by legislation, it's just wishful thinking, but it's irrelevant anyway as the Tomato terms had the back billing condition.

It’s not just guidance. The 12-month back-billing rule is contained in SLC 21BA, a binding condition of an energy supplier’s licence. It isn’t merely an Ofgem recommendation.
Tomato’s contract contains the clause because it’s legally required.
No party can pursue a debt that is contractually unrecoverable.

Thanks for that little nugget of information. It probably explains why EDF have only made half hearted attempts to recover an unpaid bill that Toto the Clowns issued when they went bust back in 2019. Oh well, EDF are out of time now to pursue the (alleged) debt.
Any language construct that forces such insanity in this case should be abandoned without regrets. –

As an administrator doesn't have a supply licence, its irrelevant to an administrator.
But as stated, it's also irrelevant as the tomato terms contained the condition.

administrators trying to claim a debt
They don't they just sell it on to a 3rd party to chase. Just like the other failed co's.
That is why you should have photo's of meter on day they failed.

To sell it on, they need to produce a bill that cannot be successfully disputed. Otherwise nobody would buy the debt. Knowing how much is owed is a necessary starting point.

just received a bill for 16-31st October 2025. Is this correct as I thought BG took over on the 9th November and then I switched to octopus looking back at my emails
has anyone else starting receiving emails for bills?0 -
Tomato used to bill on a calendar month basis, so this could be the bill for October 2025. It looks like they have waived charges for 1st-15th due to back billing rules. You probably still have a final bill for the first part of November to come.

I’ve just received one for 1st Sep - 7th Oct 2025

Does it show you owing them anything?
