Tomato Energy (Electric Only Supplier) - Too Good To Be True ?
Comments

I take it EDF took responsibility for the final bill in your case and not the administrator, as in Tomato's case. Isn't there something about energy companies having so long to chase an incorrect bill, if they suddenly notice that they've under charged you say? How are other Tomato customers feeling about this?

You possibly mean back billing, which is related to conditions of the supply license, which ends when the supplier goes into liquidation.

EDF have made contact a couple of times. Each time I have told them that gas readings are wrong and the imperial conversion has been incorrectly applied. No response.
Don't appear to have any communication from them since about May 2020, so I guess they are out of time now to take any legal action.
Any language construct that forces such insanity in this case should be abandoned without regrets. –

So does the administrator have 6years to send out the final bill?

Yes, they do.

Ofgem have tried to get Administrators to follow the intent of the licence terms regardless, but they have no power to make them comply.
BG were also very clear that they would play no part in sorting out closing billing, unlike some other SoLR processes.

I guess then calculate yourself your final bill, standing charge, VAT and usage of average rate per unit you could see - put it to savings account and set the reminder for 6 years. In 2032 you may keep it if no contact :)

Which shows a lack of understanding on Ofgem's part, administrators are under under a professional and legal duty to recover as much as possible, not just let some people off paying their bills to be "nice".

The contention between Ofgem and the administrators is usually over back-billing…
There is a legitimate debate I think as the amounts the administrators may be trying to recover were incurred under contracts and licence terms that precluded the operating company from billing for those amounts so it is at least somewhat perverse to be seeking payment during administration for something that was not payable before losing the supply licence and entering administration…

I was on the single rate and had just paid till the end of October bill when they went under, so it's only 9 days thankfully. I just don't like not knowing what's going on and owing money.
