If I signed up last week but I'm one of the many whose switch failed and am on 'the spreadsheet', presumably that'll still happen?
I got an email with the contract and everything
Are you asking because you want to wade in at this juncture?
If they have been prevented from taking on new customers, then it will probably not happen. If you don't want it to happen, then you will be able to raise an objection with your existing provider if it does start to happen.
Oh I absolutely want it to happen - at least for however long Tomato has left. It's by far the cheapest and my flat is all electric.

I'm hoping because I'm technically registered then there's a chance. And even if it doesn't I imagine I'll be able to get the 2x£40 compensation for a delayed switch
They need only pay the £40 within 10 working days to avoid paying the second £40. Miracles could happen ;)
If they are going to imminently fail, then it is not at all clear whether unpaid compensation would be protected in the same manner as a credit balance on an open account.

Of is this just PR spin for Elexon (or someone else) stopping them from taking on more customers?
Have there been any announcements from any of the industry bodies?

That's the million dollar question, do we believe him?

With all the £80 they owe the failed transferred as well as all the smets1 meters they have not been billon. Added to the Ofgem and Elexon notices....I think we all have to er on the side of "somethinks up"

Time to visit the Elexon site
Plus of course what they owe to the Energy Ombudsman Service towards the cost of each complaint investigated.

I have been wondering that, but as TE bill in arrears it might not need protecting, as their users are debtors, not creditors.

There won't in fact be any credit balances, but those owed compensation would be treated as creditors to the business and they'd normally be low down in the pecking order, so likely wouldn't be paid after what little cash was available went to priority creditors like employees claiming wages and HMRC claiming VAT.

Hopefully this is as he says, they are being overwhelemed and they need time to get on top of it all and sort out issuess, because i and every other TE customer do not want to see them going down the toilet because of fines imposed on them by ofcom for failed switching, because the only people this will impact at the end of the day is TE customers, and not those who's switching failed for whatever reason, and we need more suppliers in the market, not less, and this whole fines for failed switching seems to me to favour the already big 6, while making it harder for smaller ones to start up and get a foot hold.

I think any theories are speculation at this point, it could be either way, from a selfish point of view, I will just continue to take advantage of the tariff in the mean time.
But if it is forced on them, I expect we will find out about it soon.
Also looking at my second bill, can see the signs of the ongoing development, much better than the first, shows correct graph for tariff, and now breakdown of usage over the different unit rate time slots periods.

The problem with this view is that if you relaxed these fines you would essentially be giving new entrants a free pass for basic incompetence.

Choosing 'to pause our growth' is some tremendous  corpoballs.

I think I hear Jim Morrison warming up...
Indeed, the reasoning behind that decision is far more complex than that unofficial, stop people leaving in droves, statement suggests.

As my mum says, it'll all come out in the wash.

Still with Octopus as have done well out of their £50 rewards scheme and enjoy the challenge of Agile but do hope Tomato keep going as the more competition the better. Interesting to see where they go with their low s/c's in April when they fall in most places in the country, they may be pondering their reaction.

I think we missed that Elexon issued a notice of default against Tomato on 7 January (we had of course seen the notice about Tomato's failure to meet EFR milestones in December 2024).
