Not all providers print the details on statements any more,
Oh, don't they? I hadn't noticed that. My other three current cards (Nationwide, Santander and MBNA) all have the necessary information on their statements.

I would still advise checking your statement first and the provider's website second before setting up a payment. Finally if neither option yields then contact the lender.

Do not use payment details some third party has typed on the internet. Even if you ignore the possibility of a bad actor scamming people, it's quite possible that these details will not be the same forever or for everyone.
    Agreed!

  • I was about to apply and see you can't use it for Applepay which is what I use all the time. Can the card be added to your phone wallet though and used that way?

agree about not paying to some random account details on the internet so will put the relevant web page here so you can see for yourself that is a different sort code and account number for a FP to an Amazon Barclaycard

This sounded ideal for me as I use Amazon a lot and have Amazon Prime so it could save me a fair bit of money.  I don’t have any credit cards or loans or bad credit history so thought it would be easy.  Unfortunately when I tried to apply the drop down menu for Mrs, Mr etc doesn't work and you can’t proceed with the application .

Has anyone else had this problem or does anyone know how to fix it?  I use an iPad for all my computing stuff if that makes any difference.
It’s definitely an iPad/Safari thing. I had exactly the same on consecutive days. Gave up and applied on the laptop and it was fine.
I’ve just tried again, no problems, I’ve used the same iPad

Unfortunately I got turned down.  I’ve had my main account with Barclays for 25 years, have no debts, loans or mortgage, no bad credit and got a fairly big balance in my bank.

At the risk of being cynical I am wondering if my age could have anything to do with it, I’m 72.

Age isn't a protected characteristic with finance in the same way as it is in say employment - lenders are allowed to refuse credit based on age to some degree. However, given some lenders will give a mortgage to someone 65-80, if said person has the funds and is in good health and with a maximum repayment age limit is 70-95, I doubt it, assuming you have income that is within their requirements

Sam Vimes' Boots Theory of Socioeconomic Unfairness:

People are rich because they spend less money. A poor man buys $10 boots that last a season or two before he's walking in wet shoes and has to buy another pair. A rich man buys $50 boots that are made better and give him 10 years of dry feet. The poor man has spent $100 over those 10 years and still has wet feet.

I just tried to set up my Amazon Barclay card to pay my Asda phone bundle and it kept coming up, according to the Asda CSR, as a visa electron card, which Asda don't accept to pay bills.

I had to revert back to the card I previously used.

That's very odd, Visa Electron cards haven't been issued in the UK for over a decade now and would have a different BIN - unless Visa have reallocated an old Electron range or something? Might be worth putting in a complaint with Asda Mobile to get this fixed as it'll almost certainly be a bug their end.

Try putting the first 6 digits of your card number in a BIN checker and see what comes up:

Out of pure idle curiosity, I put mine in:

"Associates Capital Corp"? Huh. That doesn't sound like Barclaycard. OTOH, it doesn't say Electron.

It's a good sign that the BIN has been recycled, giving it a Google it looks like it was something to do with Citigroup, who exited the UK market around the 2008 financial crisis and sold their credit card books to Barclays. So I would guess this is a BIN Barclaycard acquired as part of that transaction and is now being put to use again after a lengthy fallow period.

In any case, definitely not Electron, nor any history of being Electron - I would guess Asda have a list of 'allowed' Visa BINs and any others are treated as Electron, even when they're not. Sadly this sort of brittle 'BIN allow list' coding is pretty common and it causes problems whenever new BINs enter circulation.
  • How did some get access online on computer for Amazon Barclaycard?  My app comes up with error code RG105, and waiting for 2 months. Any advice?
