You could have reminded them of their "bosses" infamous "Stiff Competition" stunt for the launch of Virgin Atlantic  :)

Ex-boss. Sold in 2018 for £1.7bn to CYBG who then rebranded themselves as Virgin Money. And now in the process of being acquired by Nationwide.
Yes, I know. I used to work for the rascals way before they had planes and trains to play with! That's why I put "bosses" in quotes!

I did it online Friday, no confirmation email. Chased it yesterday and no sign of request so CSR did it again. 3 - 5 days. No real rush I guess for 20 squid but with a year to plan for it, it feels like an unforced error
Me too. Also no confirmation email but I haven’t seen any mention of anyone having received confirmation.
Did anyone who used the online form to request closure, receive any acknowledgement other than the onscreen message?

    BIB is a bit concerning.
I do have a screenshot of VM message Friday 16.46 acknowledging closure request & saying account would be closed within next 2 working days if all info matches.

like @ Coldiron, no real rush for the money but I’m trying to reduce the number of accounts.
The only one I've seen is this one but I get the impression that not many people got one
That’s the onscreen message which appeared after submitting the closure request form.
Recent posts suggest that those who requested closure early on 1 Aug have been sorted. Hopefully they’re being dealt with in order. It was your comment that CS could find no record of your closure request that concerns me.

When I phoned yesterday for status, the advisor contacted the Back Office team and advised that the closure form was not appropriate for this type of account. I pressed her to clarify for the benefit of all those waiting, but couldn't/wouldn't, but did raise a closure request to be actioned 3-5 days from the following day (today Thursday). I phoned again, this time I was advised that the online form was indeed acceptable and was one of the three methods ... phone, branch, online form.

btw ... I did express we were understanding.

I submitted the closure form at about 7am on 01/08 and I'm still waiting.

    Virgin Everyday Saver Closure

As I wrote in an earlier post, I filled out the form via the VM website on Friday 1st August to close the old regular saver that morphed into a Virgin Everyday Saver with zero balance, and I requested remaining interest to be transferred to my current account.

The account is still open, 7th August, so I called customer service, gave the details as requested and was told it would be actioned in 3 or 4 days.

    Looking forward to Tuesday next!!!

Another minor gripe about Virgin - had an email from them saying that my new statement is ready to view. No indication as to which account this is for. I have a current account, regular saver and ISA with them, two different sort codes and two different sets of login details. So I have to log in to both accounts to find out which account they are referring too.

Mind you, probably would have taken less time than it did to type this message :D

Made the closure request online 1.8.25, but account still open and no final interest - phoned today, the CSA made no mention of what had happened to my online request, but went through a manual closure, so another 3-5 working days! Not very impressive.

As I have a security token, at least there wasn't any problem withdrawing the full balance after maturity, so there's that, I guess...

Also used that form at the weekend to close the everday saver account and have heard nothing. What a silly system.

I rang today, funnily enough, CSA said the form online doesn't work for savers so did it on the phone with me, very easy if you know your banking PIN and said maybe tomorrow if not Monday as the account closure team don't work at the weekend!

Sam Vimes' Boots Theory of Socioeconomic Unfairness:

People are rich because they spend less money. A poor man buys $10 boots that last a season or two before he's walking in wet shoes and has to buy another pair. A rich man buys $50 boots that are made better and give him 10 years of dry feet. The poor man has spent $100 over those 10 years and still has wet feet.
