We recieved one today, final demand for £585 to do with OnBuy.com. We have never used Klarna and never purchased from OnBuy.com. Rang Klarna and we were told its a scam letter and to send back to the address on the letter (Klarnas Credit Office in London). We wont be doing that and instead will keep full records of everything. Hoping thats the end of it as this is the first we have heard of any issue. Apparently our purchase was from 14/9/24. Interestingly if you put Klarnas customer service number into 'who called me' it says its a credit card scammer
I recommend checking your credit file over the next couple of months for missed payments regards to this. Alarming it is still happening, clearly Klarna haven't closed whatever loophole exists in their system to prevent this fraud.

I got a letter today too. £608 with onbuy.com. I've reported it with Klarna, they are investigated the fraud.

How are they giving out credit to randoms with only a name and address? They even used my old address so shouldn't have been able to open an account. Thank goodness I still have my mail redirection in place otherwise I may not have spotted it on my monthly credit report.
  • We've received a final demand letter on Saturday for something bought in July. Like everyone else never had any dealings with Klarna or Onbuy. Com. Rang Klarna on their freephone nos. to be told there is something showing against our address but that there was no phone or email. Why would they give credit without an email address or telephone. They are investigating and will get back to us in 21 days, won't hold my breath but will chase them if we don't hear anything. Contacted Action Fraud and told to pass crime number onto Klarna. Nothing yet showing on credit report but will keep checking daily.

Update. Emailed Klarna yesterday to add crime nos to our original phone call. Had a automated reply come straight back. Ho This morning had email from customer support with a case nos and asking us to confirm details so they can look into it for us. Hopefully be sorted soon.

Why not scan the letter in and store it somewhere online, email it to yourself etc, then send it back? That way you have the record and comply with their process

People are rich because they spend less money. A poor man buys $10 boots that last a season or two before he's walking in wet shoes and has to buy another pair. A rich man buys $50 boots that are made better and give him 10 years of dry feet. The poor man has spent $100 over those 10 years and still has wet feet.

Just a quick update, I noted the fraud with Action fraud and Transunion yesterday. Today I have received email confirmation that my account has been closed:

"Thank you for taking the time to inform us that the order with statement number xxxx was created using your personal details but without your knowledge or consent.

We can confirm that the statement has now been closed and we have suspended the details used. This means that your personal details cannot be used to make further purchases using Klarna’s credit products. These restrictions will remain in place until you make contact with us to remove the suspension.

Please be assured that if credit marks or credit account data have been submitted to credit reference agencies in relation to these orders they will be removed."

I'm quite impressed at the quick turn around, honestly, sorted in half a week. I was expecting a bigger fight on my hands.

Fingers crossed you all get it resolved just as quickly.

Thats brilliant news. Think they must have had loads of people ring them. We rang up on Monday so hopefully ours will be dealt with quickly as well. Still find it mind boggling that they allow people to get credit with just a name and address.
  • I also have been scammed. I received a Final notice-Klarna pay later credit agreement on Tuesday for £450.Apparantly its for goods bought on OnBuy.com in July of this year. I wonder why I have not received any previous notices. According to my credit report the account was opened last November and two payments were made. This is clearly a case of Identity fraud and I have reported it to Action Fraud and obtained a crime number. I have emailed Klarna and phoned two times. I do not understand how they have managed to open an account in my name without banking details. Apparantly they used a old email address I used about six years ago and Microsoft will not let me in this email address as I've tried everything. Any advice would be appreciated.

I'm the OP and exact same thing happened to me (other than the website purchased from). You should check your credit report (see https://www.moneysavingexpert.com/loans/check-free-credit-report)
as the late payments will possibly show up there. However there is a little you can do other than wait for Klarna to acknowledge this as fraud (hopefully they have already at least verbally by phone), and then wait for them to action and close your klarna account (the one created in your name by fraudsters) from further purchases.

They should also automatically contact the credit ref agencies to remove it but you may as I did want to contact them to dispute the entry as fraud. For example Transunion, here https://www.transunion.co.uk/consumer/consumer-enquiry-form. You may want to dispute with the other CRA's also if it also appears on those.

Klarna ahould block your account with them once actioned, so if you did need to use Klarna (I personally wouldnt, obviously) you'd have to ask Klarna to then remove the block, again though, I wouldn't advise it personally.

I think all in all it took about a month to resolve so be patient and don't panic.
