  • This just in from Klarna in response to my demands for the final notices to be rescinded, my credit score to be returned to it's previous level and for compensation for costs and distress;

Your concerns surrounding the compensation, the credit score and for the fraudulent activities have been carefully examined. Our team conducted an extensive investigation, taking into consideration all relevant details and evidence at hand. After concluding our investigation, we have arrived at a decision regarding your complaint. We have decided your complaint is not upheld.

That's an extract from a much larger e-mail but it's all cut & paste gibberish.

You will usually have the right to go to the FOS but why on earth did you ask for money for the change in the gimmick score that nobody ever sees? What financial loss can you substantiate (putting aside emotions) in having this entries on your account and then being removed?

Sam Vimes' Boots Theory of Socioeconomic Unfairness:

People are rich because they spend less money. A poor man buys $10 boots that last a season or two before he's walking in wet shoes and has to buy another pair. A rich man buys $50 boots that are made better and give him 10 years of dry feet. The poor man has spent $100 over those 10 years and still has wet feet.

I haven't asked them for money for the change in my credit score.

Edit: It looks like they are regulated by the Financial Conduct Authority nowadays (a recent change by the look of it).

Klarna have been FCA regulated since November last year, their temporary permission to operate in the UK following Brexit, expired in December, so a new UK entity was established Klarna Financial Services UK Limited which is now responsible for business conducted in the UK.

However as your alleged debt dates from before this, your complaint lies with the original entity
Klarna Bank AB, which is a Swedish firm, and was not FCA regulated at the time.

My thoughts are, should you go down the FOS route, they will come back and say we have no authority to act in this case.

It looks like everyone in this thread who has had a letter from Klarna are firmly in the FCA era. Certainly, both of my letters are from Klarna Financial Services UK Limited and their very small print acknowledges that they are authorised and regulated by the FCA.

The date is what matters, not who is now sending the letters. You cannot as a consumer, raise a direct complaint with the FCA, you go through the FOS

Your previous point - you posted a reply from them saying they wouldn't compensate you for a drop in your score hence my comment as it implies your complaint was about that as well. Compensation needs to have justification that can be quantified, particularly above token "go away" payments

I have never once stated that I'm chasing them for compensation for a drop in my credit score. Please feel free to quote me where I have directly stated that.

That's twice now you've made this mistake. Even in your quote above you state you posted a reply from them saying they wouldn't compensate you for a drop in your score but then you continue with hence my comment as it implies your complaint was about that as well

Any implication is in your own mind. To be absolutely clear, I have not asked for compensation for the drop in my credit score and it would not surprise anyone that Klarna have not replied to a question I did not ask!
  • I've also had the same as everyone else, they purchased 2 items on separate days 3 days apart I think and in March. I've also reported it to the fraud team to get a crime number, seems.like March was the month. They used my name and address but a different email and a phone number ending in 3456 or something like that, the strange thing is Klarna told me it was delivered to my own address that definitely didn't happen,

I'm really sorry to hear that. Were the purchases from DHGate? Hope you get this resolved real soon.
  • Thankyou, Yes DH Gate never even heard of them, I've been worried sick but feel a bit better now I know I'm not the only one
