What is FLYLADY? Well, it's our version of the US flylady idea - but we work on the principle that housework is not fun, it's boring, can be time-consuming, is often thankless but, unfortunately, necessary. It's here on Old Style to provide the support we all need and to make the whole task easier and quicker. We also accept that, sometimes, life just gets on top of us and we can't keep up, maybe because we're time-poor, not in the best of health and/or we have littlies who need us. We are definitely NOT control freaks aiming for perfection and utterly spotless show-homes.
Welcome to the weekly Flylady Thread. You're more than welcome to join us in the everlasting battle against dust, grime and gibble. The aim of our thread is to make those onerous tasks less daunting, and to support each other - and to make time for the finer things in life!
Right now the thread is looking very quiet...but please
do remember we have to abide by MSE rules; each post should, ideally, include
some mention of flying.
Thank you Valli for last week's thread..
Please follow the forum rules on this thread
as Flylady has been here a LONG time and is a fabulous support and resource for
lots of us. All posts should have some Flylady-related (ooh a compound
adjective) content!
The idea is that even if you are really busy
you don't need to fall off the wagon!
Every room comes back around next week so
please don!!!8217;t stress about catching up
These lists are only suggestions and not a
must do list; you are more than welcome to post and follow your own lists.
Also adding a declutter mission each day will
help to gradually clear the clutter and make flying easier.
A few of the basics before we start the week
Hotspots are areas where if one thing gets put
there, loads of other things follow!
Daily routines are anything you need to do on
a daily basis like washing, swish and swipe kitchen and bathroom, ironing,
making beds, vacuuming high traffic areas, making meals etc.
Night-time routines are all things which make
getting ready in the morning easier, preparing clothes for the next day, making
lunches, swish & swipes of the kitchen and tidying the living room before
you go to bed plus personals like shower/brush teeth etc.
Fling Boogie - stick on some loud music, grab
a bin bag and whiz around the house finding items that can go out with the
rubbish, recycling, for charity shop, basically anything that will stop it
cluttering your home.
Swish and swipe/S&S means have a quick
wipe over an area such as a sink or toilet to prevent the build up of dirt.
This is usually done on a daily basis
HHE/HHC/HHI Half Hour exercise/challenge/ironing ... run
around for 30 minutes to the Benny Hill music frantically cleaning exercising
or ironing.. other music may be used if you prefer!

Edited to add
Gibble ~ miscellaneous crap that appears forever homeless
Dot-to-dot ~ pick a small area (not a whole room) like a
chair/coffee/table/shelf/worktop or wherever- thats your first 'dot' - totally
clear it - clean it - and only put back what should be there - deal with what
you have removed (not just move it somewhere else) then if you have time move
on and do the same to another 'dot' -the idea is just like a dot to dot puzzle,
you aim to join up all the dots and have a tidy room. The trick is to keep each
dot tidy until you get them all joined up! All credit to AnW's Mum for this one
RoD ~
Room of Doom, the one room that feels like it is a permanent pit and cannot be
used to its potential!
MAD half hour- Mad is the abbreviation for
Make A Difference.
The idea is that you have a Forth bridge (ie
never-ending - or just huge) task but that you work on it in half-hour bursts.
This way you know you ARE stooping, and that you won't get it finished but you
will make a difference - so it might be clearing out - the garage or shed, or
clothes sorting, or weeding - you get the picture - but rather than keep going
until you've lost the will to live you do half an hour...but, eventually those
half hours will get the job done!
Mr S/A/T/M/L/Al - supermarkets Sainsburys, Asda, Tesco,
Morrisons, Lidl, Aldi. You get the picture!!

Thank you all for your lovely comments and thanks CofG.
Mixed day again with a high of Mum's longest walk (620m) and lows of a lot of tears. I rang the Stroke team firstly as they hadn't informed us of the forthcoming week's appts yet and also to request a Carer Support session which they offer. Lady on phone was lovely and will email the psychologist I met last week who's seen Mum twice to do cognitive assessment and anxiety strategies. Hopefully I'll be able to meet with her before I go home on Wed as this level of mental distress in Mum is way beyond what I feel able to cope with; even if I get reassurance that I'm doing/saying the right things would be helpful. I have a feeling DB isn't going to be willing/able to take over much in the next few weeks.
Anyway enough flying done today to mention.
Have a good week all.
Remember...a layer of dust protects the wood beneath it.6 -

Evening all. Various things have appeared in my diary for the coming week - all good - but I can work round them, so I shall be in and doing as much as I can manage from the list. Thank you Natty for setting us off in the right direction x
Good to know you're still with us, pigpen! x
Today I managed to declutter some of W and M's unfinished craft work which had been sitting on top of the FF in the utility. I even dusted and polished the top of the FF whilst up on the stepladder. Some tourist leaflets came back with DH from his visit to the motor museum yesterday, but I handed them back to him for disposal, and I also binned all the election blurb that I had kept until after voting because I had wanted to see which canvassers could be bothered to come up the steep drive to our little cul-de-sac.
Hope everyone has a good week xxx

Morning all xx
I'm up, made my bed, put new batteries in the scales, got weighed*, completed Wordle and Connections, and I'm supping my first brew.
*Minus two more pounds. Woot woot. I'm out for brunch with L this morning, and tea with S tomorrow evening, careful choices needed to continue the downward trend. Four months until the wedding. 😊
In between British Grand Prix and TdF yesterday I read a pile of magazines- so they can go in the recycling box this morning. Every little helps.😊
I went to see Pops and Babs yesterday. Babs is 10 days post TKR (total knee replacement) and still in a lot of pain, but mobilising well with two sticks. Pops is enjoying being in charge as he insisted that she convalesce at his house. He's a good egg.
Brew 2 and breakfast** next.
Have a good day.

Good morning 😁
Thank you for the lists - I will try to keep up!
I had a lazy day yesterday.....I got wet walking to the coop for something for dinner before it shut. After dinner I said I would sort the kitchen out after someone emptied the DW.....it wasn't done 🙄 From the clattering downstairs, it has been done now 👍
I have made my list, weighed myself (thanks Round for flinging one of your lbs my way....🤦♀️) & had a cuppa. I am going to get up & dressed, put on the WM & decide on a plan of action. I need to eat better, so a healthy breakfast is needed.
DS has asked me to book his car in for a service & mot, DD2 has asked me to go with her to the hospital - I need to pick her up at 11am. She has a scan every week, and they are checking baby's heartbeat twice weekly. They are concerned about blood flow & growth rate and talking about delivering by 37 weeks. DD2, in herself, is feeling good. It could be an August baby instead of September at this rate....
Ok - I need to get shifting....
Have a good day everyone x6 -
I'm in - forgot to update after Monday last week 🤦♀️
So, this morning I stripped the bedding and put it on to wash then made my smoothie then went out for a walk. I got home and prepared dinner then I cleaned the bathroom, wiped all the surfaces in the bedroom, vacuumed upstairs, vacuumed the stairs, lounge and yoga room then cleaned all the glass in the lounge.
Had a quick break for a chamomile tea, sorted the herbs I dehydrated and bottled the ivy laundry detergent.
I then wiped down all the surfaces in the kitchen and utility, cleaned the table (including the legs) then vacuumed the hall, utility room and kitchen and mopped the floors. I had my music on throughout so had a fabulous time singing my head off! 😁😂

Evening all. Thanks for the list. I'm in tomorrow morning, Thursday and Friday this week.
Today just the dailies as both DGDs have been here..a lovely day mostly playing in the garden.
Some lowlife tried to take money out of my account so I'm now waiting for a new card and in other MSE news, just when I stopped postcode lottery to save £144 a year ( those were expensive socks), the water bill (metered) has gone up by £9 a month..grrrrSpend less now, work less later.6 -
washing in and swimming towels on maiden to air off. Took the aged ps to the chicken place for a takeaway and declined offer of any. Never eat it. new bunny settling in, other bunnies seem to be accepting her. she’s a sweetie. She’s kept the name she came with…so far. But it might morph into Daisy Duke or Daisy Daisy. if you know you know.Don't put it DOWN; put it AWAY"I would like more sisters, that the taking out of one, might not leave such stillness" Emily Dickinson
