Is it better to get one on arrival at airport or to my hotel? Yes

Do some hotels have better access for getting in and out? (as I'm in a few different hotels so could factor this in) No, they are all fine. Well some of them have a bit of a walk to get to the casino/hotel but all are very easily accessable and right off the strip - either left hand side or right. (but always a turn to the right)

Is it a nightmare crossing the strip? No, just very slow sometimes.

How do I make sure I get full cover for insurance?
You book through Dollar.co.uk and feel comfortable knowing that even their most basic booking has every cover included.

Where do you recommend for hire? Heard dollar mentioned a few times.
I have always used Dollar and always will (except in Florida where i now have outstanding toll violations with a car i got through Dollar)

Dollar are great but just a few heads up:

    1. Learn how to correctly pronounce the word "No" Then say it again, and a few more times. Then when you get to Dollar and they try and sell you the world and every upgrade known to mankind - you'll be fine.

    2. Do not under any circumstances accept a car other than what you have booked unless it is an obvious (un charged) upgrade. For example, i had a Jeep Cherokee booked and they spent about 15 minutes trying to convince me they didnt have one in and a Jeep Liberty was the same  Needless to say once i had whipped out my Dollar Express card and asked for the manager a beautiful and brand new Maroon Jeep Cherokee amazingly became available.

    3. You have booked every insurance, yes you do have the CDW, yes you do have the waiver, no you dont need roadside assistence on a car with 5000 miles on the clock. (Believe me they try it on)

    4. No, you do not have to pay the tourism charge because you have done so already.

    5. Practise the word NO a few more times.

A few of you have spoken about car hire and I'm thinking about getting a car for a few days in my 10 night trip. I've only ever driven a car abroad once in France and is wasn't the best experience, so I've got a few questions please.

Figure we'll use the car for visiting Hoover Dam and a few shopping trips. Maybe for other day trips, but no firm plans on these yet.
I always have a car and pick it up at the airport

Whoever you go with get the all inclusive package in the Uk, which will include tank of fuel, extra driver and all insurances

    www.yescarhire.com

    www.netflights.com

    or www.carhire3000.com

I have used them all, the last couple of times I have used carhire3000, who use Dollar and gaurentee to beat any other like for like quote

Won't be buying any additional insurances as should be all included int he price ive paid!

    Cheers tho!

You would say that - You're American.

In my opinion Bud and Miller taste like the urine of rats. Just accept the fact that you cannot compare to European Lager. Its not big deal. Oh, and British food tastes much better.
Who was talking about lager, that's a girls drink!!! Never touch the stuff, don't want my mates to get the wrong idea:kisses3:
PS I may be American but I have lived in the U.K. for 35 years, the U.S. passport is is for convenience really, as I have family over there and do a fair bit of work as well. I wanted to become an English citizen years ago but they told me I had to become British instead, so I left it.
The common law of business balance prohibits paying a little and getting a lot. If you deal with the lowest bidder, it is well to add something for the risk you run, and if you do that you will have enough to pay for something better.

While on the topic of car hire, here's what I'd like to do but need to know the best locations for arranging my car hire to / from.

Stayin in Ceasers Palace 4 nights last night 13th Nov.

Going to Grand Canyon staying 14th Nov

Then to Harrahs 15th Nov for 3 nights.

I'd like to get a car either in the evening 13th or morning 14th to cover the GC then keep for a few days haven't quite decided yet, so lets say drop off in the evening on the 16th / 17th (while we're staying at Harrahs).

So where's teh best hotel to book the pick up / drop offs at.

    Thanks

It depends if you want to go with Dollar or not - Caesars and Harrahs are both Hertz outlets I think. Bellagio is right across the road from Caesars and not too far from Harrahs...so might be a good option.

Why not keep the rental until the day of your departure - you can drive to the rental car facility to drop it off and get a (free) shuttle to the airport. Check the prices as at some point it becomes a lot cheaper per day - a weekly rental is much cheaper than 7x the daily rental rate.

One thing to beware of is that the hotel locations have limited hours - Bellagio closes at 5pm (opens at 7:30) - may be worth considering depending on what time you wanted to pick up or drop off.

I really think that Vegas is an easy place to drive - much easier than London, at least for me!

As for where to pick up - it can be more expensive to pick up at the hotel, sometimes more expensive to pick up at the rental facility...whether you want to start your holiday driving from the airport or not is up to you (I normally do as then I have the car and don't have to worry about picking it up later)...plus it's a bit more gentle introduction to driving in the US if you pick the car up at the rental facility (no longer at the airport itself)...picking up from a hotel will mean getting the car from a multi-level garage and then navigating out into the wilds of Vegas. At the rental facility it's a single level, there's someone at the booth as you exit to ask questions and (if you go straight up the strip) it's almost a straight shot and you will be following other cars out...though going straight up the strip will probably be the slower route, there are so many obvious landmarks that it's really easy.

As for access - some hotels don't have access from the strip, or have back ways in that can be a lot easier than the strip route...the Bally's main entrance from the strip can be horrid because of the pedestrians crossing in front - seems there's never a break and they never seem to want to stop to let you in...so we always come in from Flamingo or the back way, etc.

In general, strip traffic moves slowly enough that you have plenty of time to figure out which lane you need to be in...and there are plenty of cars in front to watch to see where they are going. Some say that Vegas drivers are rude, but I've rarely had trouble changing lanes in heavy traffic -someone always lets me in.

Yes that just crossed my mind may be better to go for either 7 days and drop off on departure or even the full 10 days we are there if it saves a taxi could even work out cheaper.
