AprilHello
I wonder if I may ask your expert advice as my head is totally spinning.
We are going to LV on 25 March for 7 nights for DH's upcoming 50th birthday. For the last few days I've been researching hotel prices etc through the links given in the first post.
From my research, I really fancy staying at The Signature but unfortunately our budget won't stretch to staying there for the full 7 nights. (My accommodation budget is £700.) So, I'm looking at something to combine with this hotel.
Last night I thought I had decided on the Mirage but having read the room reviews on Tripadvisor it has now put me off. Now, I'm looking at TI. The best offer they have at the moment is their non-refundable one. (Staying at The Signature for the first 4 nights and then TI for the last 3 I work out the price to be £654 so nicely under my budget. The Signature plus Mirage works out at about £687.)
So, TI, non-refundable offer, (and stop looking at deals!) or Mirage, refundable (and keep my eyes open!)?
Any other suggestions?
Many thanks
Mardrew
trip adviser is great for a general idea of what a place is like , but with so many hotels in Vegas you find good ones well into the double figures range. and like ferf says people tend to write more bad reviews than okay reviews
There is a lot to like about the Mirage IMO , the great location , the tropical jungle oasis theme , great restaurants , and friendly staff ect.
okay the rooms don't have WOW factor , but they are perfectly nice , spotlessly clean , reasonable sized well equipped and very comfy beds IMO . remember they have some pretty stiff competition to compete with , ( things like the signature for example ) ,in any other city they would be considered pretty good by most standards
The Bathrooms are a little small , but really how big a deal is this if you can do everything you need to do in there no problems ? . The Bathrooms at THE HOTEL are massive , for example ( 2 sinks , sunken waterfall bath that the water comes up to your chin, separate glass shower ect ) but if the the Mirage was the right price ( or refundable ) over it , i would pick the Mirage everyday and twice on Sundays
also remember Treasure Island is The Mirage's sister hotel so to speak, they are both owned by the same company , the are not dissimilar in the public areas , are the same shaped building and are connected via Monorail. Treasure Island was built with the first profits the Mirage made way back in the early 90's ( Mirage opened in 1989 ). okay i have not stayed in TI , but from what i have seen they are probably quite similar in terms of room quality.
would i stay at The Mirage again ?? 100% YES if the price is rightso the question is ..what is the No Refund price for Treasure Island ??
it might so reasonable that you are unlikely to save much on anything else that might come along in the mean time.Slots-a-Fun has $3 blackjack most times as well.
Not necessarily the most posh place on the strip but it's cheap.
i completly forgot about Slots a Fun ,
you got to love these little fellas mixing it up with big boys. they know they cannot compete , so offer great things at cheap prices to get people through the door ( plus low limit tables ect) . you can get one of thoose massive Hotdogs and a drink for free with the LVA book of values for example.
it's tempting to think O Shea's is like that , but it is owned by Harrahs. but it certainly doesn't go in for all that good taste crap.
you can just see the thinking behind it ...... Irish theme = paint everything green , slap shamrocks and harps everywhere, serve a great pint of Guiness, and for good measure stick a little person with Irish accent and in a green felt suit outside with a megaphone. excellent :T :T
only in VegasBetter in my pocket than theirs :rotfl:0 -
I'm feeling so giddy and excited as I have just booked The Signature & The Mirage, both fully refundable. I may keep my eyes open but feel happy with both choices. Many thanks for advice given.

PS Trets, thanks for reply. I think we posted at the same time. In answer to your question, the TI non-refundable offer for the last 3 nights of our stay works out at £232.75 compared to the Mirage refundable offer which works out at £260.0 -

Slots-a-Fun also has the distinction of being the ONLY place I have won cold, hard cash on a free slot pull - the ones where you get the voucher in a funbook and have the chance to win all kinds of awesome things but you usually win a pack of playing cards or 2-for-1 vouchers for a show you don't want to see? I won cash. $1.25. 5 quarters. I was so amazed that I won cash and that the machine actually paid me in legal tender.
It's the little things for me, obviously.Does remembering a time that a certain degree of personal responsibility was more or less standard means that I am officially old?0 -

I think not.
"24 hour happy hour, right here, right now, $1 drafts" he even wears green CrocsThe common law of business balance prohibits paying a little and getting a lot. If you deal with the lowest bidder, it is well to add something for the risk you run, and if you do that you will have enough to pay for something better.0 -

The Mytravel site has prices for Man to Las fly drives. I haven't been able to make any sense of the Thomas Cook site for ages. (Sorry I can't remember what they were today.:o)0 -

I have never used it because it is so far from anywhere and have thought to myself that it was never a viable alternative to the strip buses0
