As far as I'm concerned please keep asking lots of daft questions. We are going in 6 weeks time for the first time (since our 3 night stay 20 years ago) and am taking heed of all the answers you (and everyone else) have been given. My jobs this week are to get some accommodation sorted, sort out a Grand Canyon trip and decide what main show we would like to go see and get that booked. (I hope I haven't left things too late.) I'm sure I'm going to be back on over the next few days asking for advice, especially over the accommodation.0 -
Pinkpinkfizz,
Please carry on asking your questions and try not to imagine us all looking over your shoulder as you do so.:rotfl: :rotfl:

It was posted on here (I'm sure) a few pages back so perhaps you already have these.
I'm starting to look at players clubs and what to sign up for, but I have not one single clue about casinos, games, chips??.... ehm....:o .... any tips?? lol
I know this is probably going to be the daftest question ever asked on ANY vegas forum but do you play with money in the casinos? as in real money into the machines? or is it all on a card that you put funds into? I am trying to save my embarassment now by trying to make it sound like I have some idea, lolhelp?!
when you sign up for a players club you will recieve a card ( credit card size) that tracks all your play. you can put this into the slot machine before playing ( providing it is the right card for the casino) . you will then start earning points for comps . at table games you simply give the card to the dealer who will swipe it.
you usually get a plastic stretchy thingy to attach the card to your belt/ bag ect so you don't walk away without it , so you will see people kind of connected to slot machines by some brightly coloured string.
once your cash is in the machine it dissapears forever like pebblesmax says . if you want to take your money ( or your winnings) out you will get a bar coded ticket that you take to a cashier booth to redeem for cash.
same with chips at table games . just give dealer your cash ( and watch them shove into the table never to be seen again) and they give you chips . again chips can be exchanged at cashiers booths, but you can also use them to tip waitress ect in the casino they belong to ect .
you will find no shortage of ATM's around the casino.a lot also double as free bill breakers , where you stick in a $100 bill and get 5x$20 in exchange.
and you can exchange travellers cheques for cash at cashiers booths
you will probably find Blackjack in the big casinos a little over your budget , they only tend to have $10 minimums during quite periods. however you find $5 blackjack center strip at places like O'Sheas and Casino Royale.
take advantage of the $1 beers and $1 mini frozen Margaritas 24/7 if you venture in Casino Royale. works out a lot cheaper than playing and tipping for domestic bottled larger
you should also be aware that smoking is still not yet frowned upon in Las Vegas like here. you can light up on any casino floor and there are girls who sell cigarettes on the casino floors. it is amazing that the vast majority of casino smell so nice all the time really. as a now very anti smoking ..ex smoker ( 4 years 1 month and counting ) , i have still yet to bothered by anyone smoking in a casino but always request a NO SMOKING room.Time is running away with us, not got this- not got that-spect it will all come together tho!

One more thing, if you are playing a table game, put your cash on the table, the dealer is not allowed to take it from your hand (poss cheating).
Dont worry about any of it though as all casinos will do free instruction on all table games at some time during the day and they are all helpful at other times to.0 -

We just got our POV in the post yesterday and were looking through it. We'd already figured that the 50% off up to $50 voucher for various restaurants, spa, etc. at the Palms would get our money back (we like the look of the mexican restaurant)...but also noticed that the monorail coupon which says something like buy one ride get one free is actually a lot better than that. The voucher can be used to buy one ticket and get one free and includes the 2-ride ticket, the 3-day pass and the 10-ride pass (I cannot remember if it included the 1 day pass but I think so).
If memory serves, the 10-ride ticket is $35 and can be shared by as many people as you want - and is good for a year from the date it is first used.
Now I know that a lot of people aren't too keen on the monorail and we don't use it a lot - but will normally buy a 10 ride pass each trip and use it occasionally. We like it from time to time. So if we can buy 2 10-ride passes for $35 then the cost of each ride comes down to $1.75. I think that the 3-day pass (non-sharable) is a little more expensive, so if someone were coming to town for a week and planned to use the monorail a lot they could buy 2 3-day passes for the price of one. In both the case of the 10-ride pass and the 3-day pass that one voucher alone more or less pays for the annual online membership and goes most of the way to paying for a full annual membership.
We opted to get the online membership only for $37 as the full membership for $50 (with the monthly newsletters) cost a total of $27 more including shipping. Just to ship the POV was $6 in postage, but including the newsletters was $20 and $70 seemed just that little bit too much to us to pay for the full membership.Does remembering a time that a certain degree of personal responsibility was more or less standard means that I am officially old?0 -

www.thomasexchangeglobal.co.uk usually has the best rates and www.linkfx.co.uk is usually pretty close though if you aren't in London it may not help you.
BUT
http://www.travelex.co.uk/uk/ has a best rate guarantee. You can order your money through them to pick up at the airport and they will match a competitor's price. Have heard of several people getting the best rate by going through travelex and then getting them to pricematch TEG.
There's a guide on how to do this here:
http://www.budgetflyer.pwp.blueyonder.co.uk/travelex.html
You'll probably get even better rates if you have a Nationwide Flex Account and just withdraw cash in the US as they give you the bank rate of exchange with no fees at all. However, there's a £300/per day limit on withdrawals on that account...so whether that works for you will depend on how much you expect to want/need each day.
I'm lucky in that I work near both of the above so I just go in and change some before we go and use the Nationwide card for the rest.
There are also sites which pay you a really good rate for buying dollars in advance - personally, I've never used any of them and do not know anyone who has. I'm sure that they are legit, but there's something that makes me uncomfortable about sending my money off to a company only to get my dollars months later.Does remembering a time that a certain degree of personal responsibility was more or less standard means that I am officially old?0 -

Hi,
Has anyone stayed at New York New York before?
My husband and I are looking into the Spa Deluxe rooms...
We have stayed at the Bellagio, Venetian and Signature before.
Loved them all! :j
We are currently booked in again with the Signature over Easter.
Can anyone recommend a really spacious bling room??
We're going for 5 nights Sunday - Thursday, so we won't have to pay the extortionate prices for Friday and Saturday! :T
Thanks in advance for any assistance.

MayThere are some great prices coming out of American Airlines at the moment. Manchester to Las Vegas return in May, £348 with a connection at Chicago, but thats not bad, only on the ground 1 1/2 hoursThe common law of business balance prohibits paying a little and getting a lot. If you deal with the lowest bidder, it is well to add something for the risk you run, and if you do that you will have enough to pay for something better.0
