  • Hi All

Heading to Vegas next Monday (22nd) for my first trip with my wife! Flying into NewYork then on to Vegas from there - staying at the Venetian - we got a super deal through Trailfinders. We are staying 5 nights

    Right, some help needed....

My wife loves her food (as do all ladies!:rotfl: ) so I wouldn't mind getting some tips for where to go for:

    1. Breakfast
    2. Lunch
    3. Dinner

I realise that there are load of places but some of your fav's would be good.. I don't mind having one reasonably expensive dinner but the rest I'd like to keep within normality (wine included of course as we both love our wine!). P.S We enjoy a mid day drink too!

Also I am a gambling novice - so I know the rules of blackjack but wouldn't be hot on Poker - where is a good gambling hall (one that serves well with the free drink as well:beer: )

Good bars / clubs at night - people have recommended the Nine Irishmen is a good place for a few pints....

Finally trips e.g Grand Canyon - should we book on the web now or wait until we arrive....

Sorry for the long post - and I realise that most questions are probably answered on Page 1 but I fancied some more recent views....

    Thanks in advance guys...

What I think would be useful is people posting summary details of their trip in a standard format, a bit like the format they have on fatwallet for hotel deals. This would make it easier for people, new and old, to find key information quickly and easily.

    Something like this.........

Date of holiday: 25th November 2008 for 7 nights
Hotel: MGM Grand 25/11/08-29/11/08 4 nights $450 Maximum Escape https://reservations.mgmmirage.com/bookingengine.aspx?host=promo&pid=001&code=MKT094&kbid=374305
Hotel: Luxor 29/11/08-1/12/08 3 nights $250 Feel the Pulse https://reservations.mgmmirage.com/bookingengine.aspx?host=promo&pid=LUX&code=PGET41&kbid=374305
Car: Dodge Caliber £260 7 days booked thru Dollar www.dollar.co.uk includes CDW, LDW, UMP
Flight: Virgin Atlantic £400 economy booked thru www.virgin-atlantic.com
Shows: Elton John $120 27/11/08 booked thru etc etc etc
Trips: Grand Canyon Maverick $200 www.

Would this be useful? What else would be useful? Im sure copy and pasting this post would retain the format eg colours etc

If I had to choose one or two for each meal (none overly expensive):

Breakfast - Paris buffet and Peppermill
Lunch - Grand Lux Cafe (handy if you are staying at Venetian)
Dunner - Mon Ami Gabi at Paris (ask for a table on the patio, worth the wait) and Ellis Island Barbeque

As for a fun bar - I am currently in love with Toby Keith's I Love This Bar at Harrah's. Yes, it's country music which may put some people off (personally we enjoy it)...but it's a really fun atmosphere especially after 9pm as there's a live band, flair bartenders, etc.

Only problem I can see is by the time people get things all sorted out some of the deals may no longer be available so links to them might not help others? also, with a lot of us booking things and cancelling when something better comes along it will probably change quite a lot for many...

Second the Grand Lux vote, menus so vast you could eat something new there everyday!! Also as you're at the Venetian walk up the strip a little to the Wynn and try their buffet for lunch/dinner, still on the diet after lunch there in May.

The Palazzo next to the Venetian from memory did lessons in the morning on table games, I think they were quite good with the drinks as well.

Grand Canyon we used Scenic Airlines www.scenic.com and found them very good, we booked before we went.

Totally agree. My in laws were wanting an idea of what sort of costs they should budget for for meals as an average - just for an idea. After first trying to figure out various restaurant options and sample prices of different dishes, I just printed the Grand Lux menu as it's pretty much average price-wise, and because I thought they should start having a look at the menu now so they can narrow down their choices before we get there. :)

Have already decided what I am having in October, too (Asian Nachos). :)

Maybe the hotel deals wont be there, but at least will give people an idea of how much to expect to pay for their chosen hotel.

Car deals and Grand Canyon trips are likely to be more long term, but even if expired, again will give an idea of how much eg a helicopter trip to South Rim was, eg http://www.maverickhelicopter.com/canyonspirit.html $245, departs GC Airport, so they can compare against current deals on offer.

And even if people cancel, they can post their new, even better trip deals.

some tips for where to go for:

    1. Breakfast
    2. Lunch
    3. Dinner

    1. Spice Market Buffet for breakfast (Planet Hollywood Hotel)
    2. If you eat enough at breakfast, you won't need lunch !
    3. Casa di Amore for a special occasion (not on the strip but free limo pickup and drop-off)

EDIT: As posted by others, Grand Lux Cafe is superb. Try the Shaking Beef !
Good bars / clubs at night - people have recommended the Nine Irishmen is a good place for a few pints....

Would also recommend Toby Keith's @ Harrahs, the food is pretty good there too. We really enjoyed the Piano Bar at Harrahs, went there 3 nights running (take a look at https://www.twinkeys.com). Also the Bar@Times Square (NYNY Hotel) is similar but we prefer Harrahs. Can't recommend any clubs sorry.

Am leaving in just a few hours! But wanted to know how you guys manage to do www.restaurant.com since you can only use one $25 voucher per meal. Surely this isn't enough? I booked 3 x $25 vouchers for the Indian Origin using the labour day promotion, but have now realised its one certificate per group.

I'm not sure I understand what you mean by 'this isn't enough'? It's a discount programme to get new customers in the door. We used our $25 voucher to get $25 off our meal and felt that for $4, getting $25 of free food was a pretty good deal. Restaurants wouldn't participate if there weren't some restrictions and remember that there's a minimum spend of $50 per $25 voucher used.
