  • Thats right Ferf, only certain class of tickets are upgradeable using miles.

I think the lowest un-flexible fare to LA on our dates was actually around the £400 mark on the website but I phoned up Virgin flying club and spoke to a woman there who gave me the best options available, which is what ive quoted above.

The Virgin website does not appear to give options to buy all available classes of ticket, just lowest un-flexible, and most expensive fully flexible ticket.

My advice would be to check out your dates/destination on the virgin website, then ring them up and speak to someone.

Online, I had priced things up at around £2200 for the 2 of us to go UC out and PE back using my miles once Id returned from Shanghai next month, but I nearly fell off my chair when the operator said it would be just £665 each to purchase a qualifying upgradeable fare.

Have finally come up with a date that Mrs Frog will be comfortable leaving the tadpoles with Grandma and Grandpa Frog......October half term!!!! :T :T :T Have about 140,000 Virgin miles to blow, so will look for best way to do it for the cost of the tax and fuel surcharge only......my initial thought was to go 2 x Upper Class to LAX (very few UC seats available to Vegas), hire a car, drive to Vegas, and fly cattle back from Vegas. Looks like 137,500 miles. Will she love UC........oh yes she will. Do we get the lounge as well at LHR?

Anyone know which hotels have gyms in Vegas and what are the gyms like? Looking to stay 4-star-ish hotels eg MGM, TI, PH, Luxor.....probably doing four days in one and four days in another, with a decent weekend deal. However as the gym is a showstopper in both hotels, am prepared to consider downtown or off strip if I must for one of the stays.

  • Froggy - 120,000 miles may be enough to upgrade to UC return if you read what Ive done this afternoon and speak to a FC sales person.

Ferf - Again to answer your point, our flights out to LAX are on a G fare, and our economy flights back at the moment are an L - but I gues this will change to G once I have the miles to upgrade that leg

Cheers Daz.....from memory return tax and fuel is about £300 each. Any idea how much is an economy fare that is upgradeable?

£665 today froggy for my dates going next may/june time.

£1331 for 2 economy ( L class i think) fares + 60,000 miles to upgrade LHR > LAX to Upper Class, my return leg will be upgraded once i have the miles (hopefully by the end of the year)

As you have 140,000 miles already, you could today do the same and have both legs upgraded from economy to Upper Class (assuming the availability on your chosen flights)

Yes, and that is the best bit. Make sure you phone up about 6 weeks before you go to book your treatment. There is no longer in-flight beauty therapists on the flights.

The Signature gym is pretty good but no spa. Look at the different hotel deals, some have specials that will give you use of the spa and gym for free.We have used Mandalay Bay and Luxor spas and gym and they were pretty good.
The common law of business balance prohibits paying a little and getting a lot. If you deal with the lowest bidder, it is well to add something for the risk you run, and if you do that you will have enough to pay for something better.

Thanks very much - we may look into this at some point in the future - already booked for October and April next year, and a chance at going next December for my 40th. :)

Got back yesterday, we finished out trip with 4 days in PH. It was amazing, i would defintootley stay there again! There was a minor problem when we were given a disabled room, which had a very unattractive bathroom and no bath, but that was quickly put right and we ended up with a perfect view of the Bellagio fountains. The Mirage lunch buffet was great, $17 each with a great selection and good quality food. I thought i'd died and gone to heaven when i tasted the roast turkey and mashed potatoes. Top of the World was amazing as usual, $167 for 1 starter, 2 steaks and sides, 2 cokes and a souffle. We went at dusk so we could see the sun go down, so we got the day view and the night view.

We went to see Cher and she was amazing! Show only lasts 90 minutes though and a portion of that is videos while she changes outfits. We saw a few people being moved after people complained about them dancing, being noisy, etc.... Two girls behind us were talking and singing along, they were a bit drunk and lot of people asked for the to be moved. The man beside me screamed at them to shut up and when they were moved, he shouted at one of them "how do you feel now, you fat piece of !!!!?". Which somewhat ruined it for me, as they weren't causing a lot of trouble. I was scared to move after that, in case he yelled at me!!

Can't really think of anything else off the top of my head at the moment.... I'll update if i do.
