November/DecemberI was wondering if anyone had advice on car hire. We want to hire for 3 nights picking up in Vegas, dropping in San Francisco. I'm getting best quotes of about £57, only problem is I'm under 24 and all sites seem to charge an extra $30 a day for a driver 21-24. This seems a bit crazy to me... any suggestions?
I think that this is standard fo al you yound tear awaysI think that budget may be the one exception butnot 100% sure
Its Vegas time -no longer :T a five year old has changed Vegas time to Orlando time0 -

Agree with Sew - it's pretty standard. I assume that amount includes the insurance waivers, and as younger drivers are considered higher risk, I would think the insurance side would be more expensive.
Be happy you're not getting hit with a one-way drop charge for picking up in one city and dropping off in another...they can be $200-$300.Does remembering a time that a certain degree of personal responsibility was more or less standard means that I am officially old?0 -
MarchThanks Sew but I wasn't thinking of spending as much as $3500 for the month.
I'm by myself and was hoping I could find a cheaper appartment.
Maybe try this:

There's a page with a price guide:

Edited to add - before you agree anything make sure you're absolutely happy with the location...may be worth posting on Open Vegas or somewhere with a lot of locals who can confirm if an area is dodgy or not...most of us won't know much about residential areas.Does remembering a time that a certain degree of personal responsibility was more or less standard means that I am officially old?0 -
JulyHello all,
Ive just received notification from BMI that one of their sales begins tommorrow 5/9/08. BMI fly to Vegas from various airports and the conditions for the USA/Caribbean sale fares are as follows:-
"3 day or Saturday night stay required. Lowest sale fares for USA are available from 1 Nov 08 - 31 Mar 09. Higher sale fares are available from 5 Sept 08 to 31 Oct 08. Changes are permitted for £50 per ticket plus any difference in fare if original fare paid is no longer available.
Book between 5th and 30 September for travel up to 31 March 09".
Have a look at their website for further information.
Hope this helps someone - I, personally, booked my BMI flight for June/July this year in their Nov07 sale - so am not sure just yet if this will be the cheapest fare for me for 09.... hmmm, we'll see!

Hmm... I'm slightly worried that this is still to come. So much for the 'great american roadtrip'.0 -

i assume you put into the matrix pick upin one city and drop off in another, if you have then the price you received i would assume reflects this. Also try one of the U.K. companes that does a one off insurance for car hire, then you don't have to take theirs. Saw it before on here maybe someone can help with that. The common law of business balance prohibits paying a little and getting a lot. If you deal with the lowest bidder, it is well to add something for the risk you run, and if you do that you will have enough to pay for something better.0 -
MayJust to update, my LHR-LAX-LAS-LHR flights have confirmed. Big thank you to jetabroad and NWA Started the packing for our trip out on monday. I keep reading on here how peope can go around the world with a small pull along. I can tell you that by the time my wife gets done we will be sitting on 4x 32KG casses to get them shut. You just have to witness this feat to appreciate the amount of stuff she takes. It all adds to the cost of the trip as well, as we always have to hire an SUV to lug the stuff around with, and the tip to the bellboys gets pretty heavy as well. will post some pics when I get home
PS sorry about the spelling and stuff, but i got this new fangled netbook and the keys are reeeeeealy small!!! and of course i don't have a spell check on it yetThe common law of business balance prohibits paying a little and getting a lot. http://www.netflights.com/
or
http://www.dollar.co.uk/
Both do inclusive deals.
But dollar.co.uk's terms do say that drivers under 24 pay an additional amount and also "Additional one-way fees may apply to your rental. If fees apply, we will contact you to advise you of these fees and send you a confirmation voucher. You may cancel your reservation up to 24 hours prior to pickup and receive a full refund" So...carefully read the terms and conditions to be sure you know what the deal is you are signing up for...from what I can see at least with Dollar, it's a bit of an unknown.
On the drop fee - if you go to the rental agencies US site, put in your details, then get the price, it should include the one-way drop fee if there is one.Does remembering a time that a certain degree of personal responsibility was more or less standard means that I am officially old?0 -

99% of all car drops offs at different locations to where you pick it up are free within California/Nevada (and depending on your company Arizona also).
Better safe than sorry though and check with your company.0 -
