MayWelcome back Panda. Did you ask for any kind of upgrade at check-in, or use the $20 trick? what was the room type you got. Going there on Monday for 7 nights, can't wait. The common law of business balance prohibits paying a little and getting a lot. If you deal with the lowest bidder, it is well to add something for the risk you run, and if you do that you will have enough to pay for something better.0

SeptemberWe had booked a standard room, through a 3rd party and paid £40 per night. The PH site quoted over $800 for 4 nights! I showed the guy $60 and asked nicely for a suite, they had none available so i slipped away a $20 and asked for a resort room. There was no problem.
We arrived on a Sunday around 5-6pm and there was no queue to check in.
The room was really nice, first one had 2 queen beds, but we moved and the second had 1 king bed, 2 really comfy chairs and a great bathroom. The shower was a mini wet room, with a kind of shelf, but big enough to sit on if you wanted to. The toilet was behind another door and there were 2 sinks on either side of the room. The bath was standard, but deeper than most vegas hotels.
The "stuff" as i call it, (shampoo, etc...) were great, a good size and smelled lovely. The towels were purple instead of white, which i really liked. The only small thing i can mention, i can't even call it a problem, is lack of wardrobe space. Doesn't bother me because i keep all my clothes on the floor :rotfl: but my OH mentioned it.
Ask for South Tower if you can, we had a perfect view of the Bellagio fountains and a restricted view of the Eiffel Tower.
Hope you have a great time. I would defintootley stay there again! The players club discounts are great too, lots of 2-for-1 drinks and a free beer at one of the bars! The girls are VERY slow bringing drinks when you are gambling though, that's my only complaint. We sat for over an hour one night and weren't offered a single drink. How are you supposed to get drunk and gamble recklessly?? :rotfl:
Also - don't get too excited about the Pleasure Pit, there's one girl dancing half heartedly on a table and a couple of girls dealing wearing corsets.....Undefeated Wii Fit ski jump champion!

Many thanks to those who replied to my question on where to eat in Vegas on Xmas day. It seems PandaPants has just been there, and I wonder whether s/he would mind either PMing me or letting me know more about the experience!!
Many thanks! :beer:0 -

Marchwe've been researching calling options while in Vegas for the in-laws - we've always gotten by with texting while in the US back to the UK or very occasionally using calling cards purchased in the US.
This trip, my MIL will want to call back home to check up on her mum and a) her phone is locked to Orange and I won't see them again until we go to try to get it unlocked for her (not something she would want to do on her own) and b) according to the Motorola website it won't work in the US anyway - so a SIM like the one pebbles has mentioned before isn't really an option.
I will have my work BlackBerry but wouldn't want to use it for lengthy personal calls. I also have a pay-as-you-go (O2) personal mobile but cost-wise none of the options there really made sense. Had resolved to go the US calling card route but found this through this site:
http://www.jajah.com/products/
Jajah direct won't really work as there's no local Las Vegas number that I can see...but I will have my laptop, so Jajah web should work. It does seem to be 1.7p per minute from a mobile or a landline to a UK landline which is what we would be using.
And yes, I could use other VOIP options as I will have my laptop but as it's a work laptop I can't install any software to it and don't use a headset at present so there would be a cost to buy one (minimal, but still)...so this seems like a good workaround for our particular circumstances from what I can see. Thought it might help someone else...or maybe there are similar things that would that others would recommend.Does remembering a time that a certain degree of personal responsibility was more or less standard means that I am officially old?0 -

I think as an experience it's a great place and would be a lovely place for a Christmas meal.
The food gets mixed reviews though...many people have had excellent meals. A minority (including my husband and I) were really disappointed in the food for the price...and we're not food snobs, but our meal was not very good...we would have expected much higher quality for the cost. But again, many were very happy with their meals, so perhaps we were there on an off night.
so long as you go mainly for the special experience and manage your expectations on the food, it will be a great Christmas dinner - and perhaps the food will far exceed your expectations.Does remembering a time that a certain degree of personal responsibility was more or less standard means that I am officially old?0 -

MayFerf - I see you're also due to go in April '09, was just wondering what your thoughts were re: currency?
Are you buying now or crossing your fingers that the trusty (Nationwide / Post Office) credit and debit cards will do you proud?
I'm undecided myself so just wondering... i'd also had a look at Crown Currency Exchange and the rates there don't seem that amazing (however they obviously are if the exchange rate gets worse)

It's much more of a diffcult one at this point, isn't it? We're going next month and still haven't bought anything for our trip next month...at this point kicking ourselves that we didn't buy at $1.85 a few weeks ago.
As we do gamble quite a lot we normally bring 4-5 days in cash and rely on the Nationwide card for the rest...but we'll wait and see how we do next month to see how much additional we'll need in $$ for the April trip.Does remembering a time that a certain degree of personal responsibility was more or less standard means that I am officially old?0
