A lot of people are asking about currency and what to do. I've got a lot of help on this thread and hopefully this is an area I can give a little help. The simple answer is that we really, really don't know what is going to happen. If you want your best bet then look at the futures markets and see what is going on. Currency markets are notoriously volatile and unpredictable. Eg no-one foresaw Alistair Darling's comments coming or them having the impact they did. In terms of interest rates, I don't really foresee a cut coming next month. We might know more when the MPC minutes get published in a couple of weeks, but for me until we see inflation peak its unlikely to happen. On the other hand a rate rise is even more unlikely given gloomy news on output lately, but if inflation is even higher than expected this month then it could be on the cards. My suggestion would be that over 3-4 months the pound is likely to pick up a bit, maybe back to 1.85.
If it was me though I would order 1/3 of the currency I am planning on spending now on travelex and rely on nationwide at the time for the rest. That way you are only partially going to kick yourself.0 -
SeptemberMany thanks to those who replied to my question on where to eat in Vegas on Xmas day. It seems PandaPants has just been there, and I wonder whether s/he would mind either PMing me or letting me know more about the experience!!
Many thanks!
Forgot to say in my PM, we were there for xmas dinner last year, it was our first time and we were very impressed. You will need a reservation though, we booked almost a week in advance and could only get 5pm or 10pm. So i would advise very early booking!Undefeated Wii Fit ski jump champion!

SeptemberGreat info, thanks. I was going to ask for a resort Vista room. OH and I are gold card holders there, we almost never gamble anywhere else. Yes the service can be slow at the slots, but the sports book is always empty so usually pick up one there to wet my wistle first. It is our favorite hotel for vibe but will be the first time staying there. We are paying $800 for 7 nghts thanks to a link to findrooms that you posted earlier. Did you notice the slots being tighter this trip than when you last went? Maybe the run of luck but we had no joy at all last trip at ny casino on slots.
Im not a big slot player, but i put in $1 when OH was in the gents. I won $51.50 on my first spin. Needless to say i was pretty happy.
Lost it later at roulette though..... :rotfl:Undefeated Wii Fit ski jump champion!

Sitting waiting for early October rates as I'll be in Vegas just for the weekend. Yes it sounds nuts but I do it fairly often -works out cheaper than a spa weekend in the UK.
Presently got the Rennaisance booked at $99 which is great for the weekend pricewise-ideally waiting for the Flamingo to drop a little more or maybe Bills. I have show tickets for the Flamingo and am hoping their rate will drop enough to make it comparable with the Rennaisance plus taxis. Nearly there but not quite-hoping to find something on Vegas.com with their double the difference rate maybe.
EDIT Arghh found an even cheaper rate-so cheap I really should book it (it will be non refundable) and give up on waiting for the Flamingo to go down in price. Gold Coast -renovated room (stayed there this summer renovated rooms are very nice) Found a deal for $69 (travelzoo) per night vegas.com have the same room at $113 so with their double the difference deal (capped at $150) it works out at $76 plus tax for TWO weekend nights or $38 a night !! Gold Coast also has free shuttle to Bills so no taxi fares when I hit the Flamingo for the show (might make it shows with that kind of saving). Only thing holding me back is that I'd like to stay somewhere I haven't stayed before .I Would Rather Climb A Mountain Than Crawl Into A Hole

MarchStrange Grand Canyon question:
Were you able to get a mobile phone signal?
I guess I assume that somewhere like that won't have service (that's what I'm telling work, anyway!) but wonder if my assumption is correct or not.Does remembering a time that a certain degree of personal responsibility was more or less standard means that I am officially old?0 -

It really depends on your network and where you are in GC. I was able to get signal, but OH wasn't and we are both with o2. :rolleyes:Undefeated Wii Fit ski jump champion!

Got a signal with T Mobile in May, though it was a bit up and down to be honest!!
