MarchOK - I think this is a really clever and definately money saving idea.
It relates to the Wynn slot club (the Red Card) and the promotion they usually have for new members. It does change from time to time, but usually something like earn 25 points for a free buffet or 50 points for 2 free buffets. Bearing in mind that the dinner buffet is $34 or so (champagne brunch is a bit more) - and quite tasty, I actually think the idea posted here is quite a clever one - even if it's not really what the casino wants you to do.

When we were there in November in addition to this promotion they offered $10 freeplay if you gave your email address. You don't earn points when you play your freeplay, but I won enough on their $10 to in turn keep playing and earn enough points for 1 and almost the 2nd free buffet. Good deal.Does remembering a time that a certain degree of personal responsibility was more or less standard means that I am officially old?0 -
Thanks to everybody for your kind answers.
Photome - I know we are only going for 7 days, probably trying to do too much I knowbut trying to pack as much in as we can as I don't know whether we will be able to afford to go back again!
ferf1223 - We are going to the GC on the Tuesday (get there Sunday), good idea about trying to do thye others first though! I realise that the Valley of fire is quite a trek out, but we planned to do it as a circular trip, go there early in the morning, then hed to the Hoover dam in the afternoon. Should be about 4 hours driving in all. Or am I totally underestimating what there is to do and see in these places? (If it was Florida I'd know!:p )
Thought of another couple of questions for all you Vegas Gurus -
1. Can anyone recommend a restaurant to eat at in the Bellagio, or should we just stick with the Buffet? I know it is really expensive, but just wondered about one just a a very special treat. Also what is the restaurant like in the Paris Eiffel tower?
2. We want to ask for an upgrade as we are travelling for a special event. I have checked the $20 trick out, but am unsure whether a sweet smile might do the trick just as well? Any ideas? We have a normal deluxe room for now.
As always any help gratefully appreciated!
.........I forgot that we nearly had a fight with our green card visa thingy when we came back from Florida. They had put all the visa's in one passport, so when it came to me handing my family's in, I didn't have them! Absolutely freaked me out until the others who we were travelling with said that they had handed ours in as well! Phew....Thing is, those Immigration officers are really scarey !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!0 -
if your wanting to dine in bellagio goto prime its wonderful but u might need to book as they fill up very quickly you can book on the bellagio website0

Hello
I always like to buy a guide book before I go away (although from all the tips I've gleamed from this fab thread I've probably got a book's worth!) and am dithering between the Unofficial Guide to Las Vegas 2008 & the Brit's Guide to Las Vegas 2008 . (The new edition is due out at the end of Feb - would it we worth hanging on for this or would the 2007 copy suffice?). I was just wondering if anyone could give me their opinion as to which is the best book. I've noticed that is says the Unofficial Guide has 50 pages of gambling tips - this is not important to us. We just want something to guide us in the right direction (and supplement the info from this thread) to help us get the most out of our 7 nights there, which is at the end of March. (Also, no accommodation booked yet. Hope I've not left it too late. Been waiting for Nationwide cc to come through.)
Many thanks in advance.

Mardrew,
I've got both (i'm a nightmare for guide books!!) and i've found both of them very good with lots of tips. Between the two i'd probably go for the unofficial guide but I don't think you'd be unhappy with either. (I swear by the Brits guide for Florida).
Hope that helps.

Mardrew,
I too would agree with Stew68 that the Unofficial guide is the best. My friends got a few other guidebooks for Vegas, but this outshone them both.
Although I have the Brits guide to Florida, I have two Florida versions of the Unofficial guide (so that should give you an idea!).
Thanks to Middy60 for your response!0 -

I'll add that to my birthday list then!0 -
I need to get a day trip to the Grand Canyon organised for two people and there just seems so may ways of doing it from so many different companies.
I've got a maximum of £200 per person for a full days trip and was wondering if there is a stand out tour you would recommend. Will be going to Vegas in late March.0 -
Digideep.
Not been yet (going in May) but have booked an all day trip with Scenic Airlines, collect from hotel, flown out in fixed wing aircraft and then coach tour round the South Rim (the proper part of the Canyon, try to avoid West Rim) and then back to Hotel again. Link to this tour is http://www.scenic.com/saws1gc_deluxe.htm One warning I would say is that I had to book over the phone and asked for an early trip, they said this was 06.40 with a collection time of 05.10!!! I soon changed my mind and went for a slightly later time. I am on holiday after all!!!!

Interesting...we were going to get the Brit's Guide for my in-laws once the new edition comes out later this month. We had an old edition when we first went 2001 which I thought was excellent - I preferred it to Time Out and Lonely Planet guides as it just seemed to have more practical info. Now I'll have to consider the Unofficial Guide.
If you had not been to the US before, do you still think you would prefer the Unofficial Guide? One thing I liked about the Brit's Guide was all of the little bits of info you might not think of if you were used to going to the US (I'm American, and I learned stuff from it!). My in-laws have been once, but it was a trip to Minnesota - so not really a touristy destination!Does remembering a time that a certain degree of personal responsibility was more or less standard means that I am officially old?0
