when you thinking of going pcg2001 - there are sometimes offers on cirque stuff but it's about timing really
we did the GC run in less than 10 hours - more like 8 (there and back) - this time round though, we're going to stay at the Bright Angel Lodge which has a rim view... so we're likely to get there around lunch, mill about for a bit then move on to LA the next morning
re: inexpensive 4* hotels - again, prices tend to fluctuate daily and there's offers all the time (trets usually posts them) - but will depend when you're thinking of going really and how much you class inexpensive aswe're staying at NYNY and it's costing £55 a night for a room with a strip view for example
lastly... weddings... if we weren't already booked in for tying the knot in the UK, we'd definitely do it over there - was a lot nicer and nowhere near as tacky as you'd probably imagine. I remember Mandalay Bay had a lovely looking wedding 'chapel'(?) for example
Are you saying you did the GC in 8 hours there and back ie 4 hours each way?
It was a long time a go that I drove and stayed overnight, but I seem to remember it taking a lot longer than 4 hours, more like the whole day but with plenty of stops as we stayed two nights just outside the park so were able to see sunrise and sunset over the canyon...awesome but very very cold - something in may.
You also say you are going on to LA the next morning but without looking on the map LA is about 5 hours away (300 miles) in the opposite direction0 -
AprilHi,
I've been reading the first posts and some of the discussion here and I am really tempted to go to LV. My OH and I don't like gambling, but LV seems to have so many things to do that we would enjoy: roller coasters, cirque du soleil shows, etc. So I was wondering:
- are there any offer for the cirque du soleil shows? on their website the shows cost around $100-$150
- the drive to and from the Grand Canyon is 10 hours!!! Has anyone rented a car and driven there, staying in the area? Is there anything else to do there?
- Hotels? I am very picky with hotels and don't like not-recently-refurbished ones, so are there any, not expensive, 4-star-type hotels which are not run-down?
- marrying in LV: I don't fancy a wedding back home, since I have never dreamt of a white dress and fancy/expensive wedding and in Vegas it seems so ... different. Is it romantic at all?
Thanks in advance.
PS: I promise I will go and buy a guide book (brits/non-official) and ask more informed questions next time. Sorry if these questions are just repeats.
please don't apologize we love talking about Vegas.
i doubt you would dissapointed with most new strip hotels . if a very nice room and hotel is important , then things like the Signature and THE HOTEL are new builds and most of the older major players have to keep pace by refuribishing. or why not really push the boat out at The Wynn , Bellagio , Venetian or the very new high class add on The Palazzo.
getting married depends on what you want. you could do what we did , in just showing up at a wedding chapel and getting hitched in the clothes your wearing or you could choose from any number of options.
most of the hotels have a chapel and if you want novelty you could get married on the pirate ship in front of Treasure Island for example. there are also many many independant chapels all around the strip. what ever works for you can probably be found with a little leg workBetter in my pocket than theirs :rotfl:0 -
Thanks for the tips. It is quite an overwhelming task to plan a trip to LV. I don't know when we are going, but I would really like to go sometime this year and I think that getting married there would perfect for us, since we aren't very keen on marrying back home.
How much would a vegas wedding (only) cost?0 -

depends entirely on what you want. i think the miminium would be cost of liscense plus basic chapel package so about $200 in total , after that any amount , any thing is possible .
there is nothing overwhelming to getting to LV , you book a flight , you book a hotel . the rest you can make up as you go .Better in my pocket than theirs :rotfl:0 -
Depends on which rim they went to. West rim is less than 4 hours from LV, the more popular south rim is hard to do less in less than 5.0

January/FebruaryI think the drive to the south rim of the Grand Canyon is rather long and dull except for the Hoover dam which is quite close to Vegas,I think a better trip is up to Bryce Canyon to the North the scenary in Bryce Canyon is far more interesting than the Grand Canyon which is just big.0

I have been to Bryce, Zion, Death valley, Yosemite and the GC. The one that took my breath away was the GC and I would go back to the GC and Yosemite tomorrow.
I also think any drive in the west is great even if it is just desert. Bryce is also a lot further than the GC or at least it seemed it when I drove it0 -
BUT if you are only going to see 1. IMO it has to be the GC.
