Looks good, thanks for your advice.
Think we'll book at one of the canyon lodges so we can hire a car for 2 days, doesn't seem too expensive.
From anyones experience are the rim views worth the extra for a room / cabin?0 -

We also stayed in the park at the South Rim, would definately recommend it. You can see all the different accommodations on this website:

You can also see a map of the GC Village here:

We stayed at the El Tovar hotel, which is about 15 metres from the edge of the canyon. If it's not too expensive for your dates, it's ideal. It's nice being able to stroll out of your room in the evening and look out over the canyon, without having to drive anywhere.0 -

I've booked a room at Thunderbird Lodge in Grand Canyon National Park for July 8th. There are 2 adults and 2 teenagers sharing a room. It's right on the rim. It works out at £90 for the night. It's more expensive than hotels outside the grand canyon but not horrific. It is room only and looks fairly basic but we'll have a great view when we wake up in the morning:D0 -
AprilThis is my first post and was hoping for some help from you guys!
I am planning a trip to vegas at the end of August this year, The packages are very expensive so I have been looking at booking flights and hotel seperatly. I want to stay at the MGM Grand and by going direct with them I can save alot.
The only problem I am having is the flights...so far the cheapest I have found is with Virgin for £546. I want to go for 5-7 days and I am looking to leave no earlier than 16th August 08 and be back no later than 27th August 08. Flights must be direct, I can go from all London Airports, Manchester etc.
Any help or advise would be much appreciated, please tell me if you think this is the best price I am going to get!
Virgin money and miles fares available if you leave you on Tuesday 19th = £468 + cost of the miles ( £45 approx) .see post #4 for details . i doubt you will get better the closer you get to departure. i would not be surprised if they sold out at this price , before departure.
August is a popular time with brits ( most people take their holidays in summer ) so a direct fare of sub £400 would be good going IMO . you will hopefully save some on the Hotels though , as August is the Hottest month in what is a very hot place.
My Travel ( now Thomas cook) did not drop much below £400 after June till late Sept no matter how late you left it. check the old thread to see my price checks from that time.

BMI fares are hard to predict but i would surprised if they beat the 2 above.
also does it have to be the MGM grand , you don't know what juicy offers might appear between now and then.

MayI've taken some tips from this thread and booked a hotel at a price I'm happy with. Its the imperial palce, I heard good and bad reviews but its our first time in Vegas and we wanted to be center strip. now I'm glad we got decent prices because there is a big convention on for the last few days of our trip (3-12 march)
Now there seems to be good deals coming out (thanks to Tretts). We cant afford a whole week at a new (higher) rate, but could we keep the convention dates at the IP and cancel the rest? or would we have to cancel the whole booking?
Hope that makes some sort of sense haha!
I'm hoping shorter stays will help with the $20 trick too ( after reading the last few post)
Thanks guys, I have LOTS of questions to ask haha!!
The lady I spoke to said I would now have to pay the current rates , which were almost double, as it was a very expensive weekend. I argued that I wasn't cancelling the whole booking, just amending it, but I felt gutted and thought I had messed up big time.
When I queried it she said she would have to speak to someone else, then came back on the phone and said that we could stay at the original rates. Believe me I felt sick for those few minutes until she said that.
If the same thing happens to you I would suggest calling back the next day, not the same day as you may get the same person, and asking again.
As for the $20 trick, I have tried 3 times at the IP and failed each time. I would suggest booking a deluxe room rather than a standard as they are much nicer. The $20 trick has worked everywhere else I've tried it.0 -
I've been checking for new posts and its all been very quiet lately, where's everyone gone............................................................. Vegas! :rotfl:
Sorry about that
Ok weather question,
I've been observing the weather in Vegas and it doesnt seem very warm!! Is this typical for the time of year? Will it start to heat up quite quickly?
I have planned my suitcase based on warmish weather, skirts/shorts, tshirts but now I'm thinking its more like jeans weather??
OR is Vegas cold different from UK cold?... as I sit here freezing with snow closing in all around and although I appreciate the picturesque beauty of it all, I am really looking forward to warm sunny days in Vegas.

I want to buy 4000 miles and buy 2 tickets to LV for Aug 27-Sept 4 2008 but am concerned that the terms and conditions appear to show that you can no longer use miles and money unless you have previous flyer miles activity in your account.
Has anyone successfully purchased tickets to Vegas using this method recently?
Many thanks!0 -
What shows do you recommend to see? I've been looking online but not coming up with anything familiar apart from Mamma Mia. I've seen this twice in Belfast, although I wouldn't mind seeing it again in Vegas.0

What sort of shows do you like? There's such a variety and some love some while others hate them.
Mamma Mia is closing sometime this summer in Vegas so if you want to see the Vegas production your trip would be the time to do it. Though there are loads and loads of shows in Vegas not available elsewhere, so if it were me I would see something I can't see at or near home. But then again, if you know you like it....
Personally, we really like the Cirque shows - if you're a Beatles fan Love is really good. I personally preferred O and Mystere myself. Ka was good but I preferred the other two. Now others will tell you that they hate all Cirque shows. So it's really personal preference.
Spamalot is at Wynn and there's a deal on Ticketmaster for some dates - $49/ticket I think it is. We haven't seen the Vegas production but LOVED the London production...and I'm not a Monty Python fan.
I think that Carrot Top - rather frantic prop and pop-culture comedy at Luxor - is absolutely hilarious...thought he was worth full price, but got 1/2 price tickets...I was in tears I laughed so much.
we really enjoyed Penn & Teller but reviews vary from loved it to hated it - there seems little happy medium.
Again, if we had an idea what sort of shows you would be interested in we could narrow down our recommendations!Does remembering a time that a certain degree of personal responsibility was more or less standard means that I am officially old?0
