I dont see the problem here. The rates have prob changed as you say it was some time ago and with the flamingo if you book direct you would only pay the first night as deposit and can always rebook at a lower rate.

I only did the previous book 3 days before, aslong as i can cancel with up to 72 hours prior im ok i guess!

    Thanks

Well... I'm quite annoyed with the Harrah's company.
I emailed the customer service reservation asking for the rates for two weeks in June for two people at the Flamingo and got the reply for $1793 inc TAX.
Some time had passed and much ear ache from my partner (to hurry up and book something) and no reply, so i decided to fill the reservation form in on the Harrah's website asking the same thing...
Got the quote of $1320 without tax.... so 9% tax rate on top of $1320 = $1438!!!
    What a con job!

I'm very glad i mailed the alternatives, seems they may send the customer service mails to a sub company to fob you off.

Needless to say i've just cancelled the expensive reservation and booked the cheepee

Quite dissapointed with the Flamingo team at this point in time.....

they were probably totally different departments. there is not just one department that handles room bookings. rooms are allocated in blocks to the different departments. one department might be for corporate bookings , one for online ect ect. they have a system of selling rooms that changes prices at a moments notice.
and like Photome says they can drop that quick.

this is why it pays to search around and then keep checking right up to before you go. booking something as a fall back is a good idea., but i never understand people panicking if they have not booked something 6 months in advance  . this isn't like walking into a travel agent the and taking a lucky dip the day before you go .

tell your partner to take a chill pill. June is not high season in Las Vegas like Spanish beach holidays . you have a fall back now , the deals will start appearing from about 12 weeks out upto pretty much the week you leave
Better in my pocket than theirs :rotfl:

Is the Palazzo right next to the Venetian? I saw the building work when I was there in July, didn't realise it was a new property.

  • Hi every one, only 6 weeks till I go Wooooooooooo!!

I've taken some tips from this thread and booked a hotel at a price I'm happy with. Its the imperial palce, I heard good and bad reviews but its our first time in Vegas and we wanted to be center strip. now I'm glad we got decent prices because there is a big convention on for the last few days of our trip (3-12 march)

Now there seems to be good deals coming out (thanks to Tretts). We cant afford a whole week at a new (higher) rate, but could we keep the convention dates at the IP and cancel the rest? or would we have to cancel the whole booking?
Hope that makes some sort of sense haha!

I'm hoping shorter stays will help with the $20 trick too ( after reading the last few post)

Thanks guys, I have LOTS of questions to ask haha!!

I agree with trets and photome...also, online rates are often less expensive than booking where you talk to someone or book by email - it costs them more to accept bookings in that way as they have to pay people to deal with them - online, the computer system does it. I don't think that their 'hot deals' are available by phone normally - they may be if you ask but if you don't ask, they won't quote them.

Also - you can choose to look at Flamingo's rate calendar with hot deals and without hot deals shown. I've checked and if you choose not to show hot deals and go through the reservations process, it does not automatically give you the lower rate. The week I checked a GO luxury room was $855 if you chose from the hot deals calendar and $1170 if you chose from the calendar without hot deals. So may be worth checking again through this link to be sure you got the best deal you can for now.

    http://www.harrahs.com/hot-deals/index.html

Chances are that rates will go down again closer to your dates...chances are your rates will change many times between now and June.

The other possibility is your original booking could have been for one type of room and your online booking for another less expensive type of room. It's possible, anyway, they have several options.

These hotels are business after all. In Vegas there are plenty of tips to get the best deal out there - but you do have to look around for them

It is and it looks really posh!

I'm so excited that there's a new casino to check out in March. :)

It does indeed. I've been looking at the website and it looks a nice place.

Thanks, any ideas on where to stay over?

We stayed in a hotel just outside the Grand Canyon National Park - I think it was called the Grand Lodge.

There are some hotels inside the Park, and some of them have rim views - which would be fantastic. But I think you would need to sell a kidney to stay there :D

There is another option (to see the GC, not to pay for a hotel there!) and that is the Indian reservation which has the glass walkway...I haven't been so I don't know much (other than it is quite easy to miss the sign off the Interstate!) It is probably about a 3 hour or so drive from Vegas - I think it is quite expensive to go onto the Indian reservation and they charge you again if you want to go on the Skywalk... looks pretty cool though http://www.grandcanyonskywalk.com/

  • This is my first post and was hoping for some help from you guys!

I am planning a trip to vegas at the end of August this year, The packages are very expensive so I have been looking at booking flights and hotel seperatly. I want to stay at the MGM Grand and by going direct with them I can save alot.

The only problem I am having is the flights...so far the cheapest I have found is with Virgin for £546. I want to go for 5-7 days and I am looking to leave no earlier than 16th August 08 and be back no later than 27th August 08. Flights must be direct, I can go from all London Airports, Manchester etc.

Any help or advise would be much appreciated, please tell me if you think this is the best price I am going to get!

We stayed inside the park for one night in Oct 06 and all our kidneys are still intact! :D

We stayed at Kachina Lodge which has rim views and it cost us $144.86 + 6.517% room tax which I don't think was too bad. We also stayed a night outside the park which cost us $125 + tax.

The one thing i'd like to point out , although it will obviously depend on what time of year you visit , but it was difficult to find a parking place anywhere near the lodge and the surrounding area. There is a big car park below the hotels , but it was very rough ground and pitch black and I didn't want to park there , but luckily after driving round for a while we managed to grab a space at the El Tovar hotel.
