No. That's what makes it so good...no fees, bank exchange rate...there isn't a better deal out there.
I agree that the discussion about spending abroad is relevant to this thread - Vegas is abroad...there are better ways than others to spend/withdraw while abroad (so on topic from a MSE perspective). As I said, we save a fair bit having the Nationwide card over the Abbey debit card we used to use - and that's before even thinking about the Post Office credit card I learned about here. Probably over £200/year we save as a result of this kind of info.
And if anyone's worried about snooty bank staff - you can apply online, get your documents certified at a post office once you recieve the paperwork and never actually have to set foot in a branch. If you want.Does remembering a time that a certain degree of personal responsibility was more or less standard means that I am officially old?0 -
AprilHas anyone opened a Nationwide Flex account recently ? The reason I ask, on my recommendation, my boss went into our local Nationwide branch and asked about opening a Flex account for use when travelling abroad and they were quite 'snotty' with him. It was as if he shouldn't be asking for one !
Just thinking whether they will start asking for regular deposits for new customers ?
we only use our Nationwide currrent account / debit card when overseas. okay we may use any left over cash in there when we get back , but other than than that it stays quite. i do send all my Quidco cash and Poker winnings into it every month or so though so thats an easy way to keep account activity.
as for the exchange rate it is pretty much unbeatable. we touched $2.08 to the £1 last year when we could only get about $2.02 for hard currency in this country.
pair it up with a Post office CC and Nationwide CC for booking everything in advance like your hotels ect and you are squeezing pretty much every cent out of your hard earned holiday cash. you used be able to get a free £20 by signing up for post office card with Quidco , but they have stopped it now
Better in my pocket than theirs :rotfl:0 -
MayYawn!!!!!!!The common law of business balance prohibits paying a little and getting a lot. If you deal with the lowest bidder, it is well to add something for the risk you run, and if you do that you will have enough to pay for something better.0

Whats going on on here?
Yawn!!! posts and complaints.
Of course recomending a nationwide flex debit, PO CC and nationwide CC. and the new Abbey one(I think its called) are relevant. They are THE BEST ways to spend money abroad and last time I looked Vegas was abroad, especially as another poster asked about spending money!!0 -
Its my DH 40th in October 2009 and I want to take him to Vegas for a week. I want to book it asap so that I can start to budget early and put the money aside. I've just started to look and telephoned a co called invegas.co.uk but the lady I spoke to said that you can only book the airlines 11 months in advance. Who did you go with and would you recommend them :rolleyes:0

AugustExcellent idea,
I haven't been yet so can't recommend much
But am off on 4 Aug, and keep trawling through 130plus pages trying to be sure i don't miss any thing, but i did not have your recommendations before so thanks.
Any other "Favourites" that Las Vegas vets feel newbies shouldn't miss
Going for 10 days BTW.
Regards
Stevethats fair enough,
Ok all whats your favourite thing to do/place to go in Vegas, nothing too mainstream sort of your own best kept vegas secret?
I think mine would probably either the american diner (where the staff sing and dance) at the stratosphere and you can get a lemonade float or the steaks at the Australian steakhouse opposite the mirage and next to mcdonalds£100 to £10k in 2010 using the magic of internet poker (Don't play poker unless you know what you are doing)
Lowest fig £25.00
Current Balance £7000Fail

Marchthe steaks at the Australian steakhouse opposite the mirage and next to mcdonalds
Outback?
They have them in the UK (at least in the greater London area, may not have them in other parts)...I try to avoid anything I can get here if I can (though I'm not criticizing you or anyone who visits them in Vegas as I really hate when people do that!)
For steaks I recommend Austin's at Texas Station or Sonoma Cellar at Sunset Station...a close second to the first place tie would be the Steakhouse at Circus Circus. All are awesome.
I don't know I have any particular 'best kept secret' ideas because between this board and OpenVegas I'm usually around people who know a LOT about Vegas - I think the Flamingo gardens are cool to have a bit of a relaxed wander - nice if the strip gets a bit manic, missed it for the first 6 or 7 trips, never even knew it was there...so maybe that qualifies?
I think the Ellis Island BBQ might qualify but at least 2 or 3 of us here have mentioned it...so not really 'secret' but a good find.
If you like films (and I know some people think it's ridiculous to go to the cinema in Vegas but we like it) find a cinema with DLP projection and be prepared to be amazed (it's like the first time you saw a DVD after watching VHS for years but on a massive scale)...the Cannery has one and I think the new Town Square complex cinema has it.
And just sign up for the players clubs wherever you go - it's free, you usually get something for joining even if it's just a coupon book - sometimes free slot play or a t-shirt, etc...and use your card when you play, you never know what it might get you.Does remembering a time that a certain degree of personal responsibility was more or less standard means that I am officially old?0
