MarchGoing Places were offering $2 to the £ on all currency at the time
It does sound like a good deal, though I suppose it depends on where the bank rate was at the time - there was a trip that we got $2.11 on our Nationwide card and Post Office credit card.Does remembering a time that a certain degree of personal responsibility was more or less standard means that I am officially old?0 -
Does anyone use the Nationwide current account, just for when they go away? I've been looking at it and it goes on about swapping over DD and salary payments, which I would not be interested in, I was wondering if I could set it up and just transfer money into it when I go abroad for the 'no charges' element, or if they are likely to kick off with that and maybe close it later?0

We only use it for holiday purposes and transfer money into it before we go and out of it (if there's any left!) when we get back...have had the account for a couple of years now I think and never any problems.Does remembering a time that a certain degree of personal responsibility was more or less standard means that I am officially old?0 -
do nationwide give a good exchange rate btw? if they charge no withdrawl fee im guessing they'll be stinging their customers elsewhere0

OctoberOk this is what it says on the website about using Nationwide Flex card and Credit card
Debit and credit cardsAs well as all of the benefits you expect from a current
account, FlexAccount doesn’t charge any extra for
transactions carried out abroad. Similarly, you pay no more
when using a Nationwide credit card – although if you use
your credit card in a cash machine, the usual cash advance
fee applies.
We use a wholesale exchange rate to convert your
transaction into sterling, with no hidden fees. Some
competitors charge up to 2.75% for conducting purchases
and for withdrawing cash abroad. Check the reverse of
your statement and Terms and Conditions to see how
much you are charged if you use another provider.
When using your debit or credit card abroad, always pay in
local currency as we handle the currency conversion and do
not charge for this service.

They give the bank rate of exchange and there are no fees for withdrawing overseas (other than what the local ATM might charge which there's no way around using any card). We got as high as $1.97 a couple of weeks ago.
They really aren't stinging customers elsewhere. If you look around on this site you will see that the FlexAccount is highly recommended...and Pebbles recommended the card to me at least a year before we actually set up an account...were previously with Abbey and reckon we save £30-£50 per trip in fees and poor conversion rates with the Nationwide card.Does remembering a time that a certain degree of personal responsibility was more or less standard means that I am officially old?0 -

There is no other debit card that comes close0 -
