November/DecemberThe Ellis Island Steak Special - hidden Vegas gem
The Ellis Island $6.99 steak dinner is one of the Vegas legends it’s something that many people have heard about but never seen or tried. It’s almost as if people who have managed to sample this rare delicacy have entered a secret club and become part of the legend themselves.
Ellis ISalndEllis Island is huge Super Motel 8 in fact it’s the largest Super Motel 8 in the World which would probably be a pretty cool accolade if you were not in a town where this makes you about 5% of the size of the average Strip hotel. Ellis Island is an old lady in Vegas as she has just celebrated her 40th anniversary and was in fact the first property I ever stayed in on my first trip to Vegas in 1992. It’s located one block off of the Strip a short walk behind Ballys on Koval Avenue (which is the road that runs up behind MGM Grand). Ellis Island is just as well known for its micro brewery as it is the Steak Special.
The steak special is not on the menu you have to ask for it and for $6.99 you get a 10oz steak, a side of beans and either steak fries, mash or baked potato and a choice from the micro brewery or EI root beer. The quality an the flavour of the steak is not the best lacking slightly in flavour. As well as the food look at the paper place mat these often have coupons printed on them which has been known to be $5 match play so your steak dinner could cost you $1.99. There are a whole host of other great value meals on the menu but to become the legend you need to have the steak.
The service at Ellis Island whilst polite and friendly is slow and you can wait some time for a table but your name goes on a list and you can wait in the casino or at the bar until you get called- smart move by the Casino right !
If you have time to go off Strip for a couple of hours this is well worth a visit and the steak dinner offers one of the best value meals that you can find in town just don’t expect a Lawry’sIts Vegas time -no longer :T a five year old has changed Vegas time to Orlando time0 -
Hi
Coming to Vegas for first time in July with husband and two teenagers. So hard to decide on a hotel! What do you think of Planet Hollywood, can get it on hotwire for $105 per night. Are there better alternatives? Also what do hotels charge to park a rental car?
Thanks :j:hello:0 -
Park it yourself.....free......certainly free at the ones I've been to. Could be a long walk back though.
Valet parking......I guess its a tip of maybe $10 or so?illegitimi non carborundum0 -
PH is fine. Look through this thread and Fatwallet and Vegas Hotel Hunt for alternative deals. $105 is a good rate for theweekend certainly, but deals at MGM Grand have been as low as $68 midweek.....or possibly lower.illegitimi non carborundum0

Also, if youre a Poker "novice", PH has a relatively low entry fee daily tournament.......possibly $40 or so......starts at 2pm I think.illegitimi non carborundum0

I'm going midweek Mon 14 July for 3 nights.
Prices I have so far are
Planet Hollywood approx £55
MGM Grand approx £73
Paris approx £50
My budget is around £100 a night.
Any thoughts/tips appreciated.:hello:0 -

Planet hollywood is OK but I would not reccomend it for famalies for three reasons firstly the pool is not very good, its two boring pools about 6 floors above the strip and each pool is about 2 foot deep, secondaly at night you tend to see more hookers here than elsewhere and thirdly whilst eth square footage of the rooms is big the bathrooms take a lot of this and 4 in a standard room maybe a bit of a squeeze. I would suggest that MGM is a better place for teenagers, fantastic pool , fair arcade and several areas away from the casino floor where the kids can look at shops get soda's etc you should be able to get this for a similar price.
Wherever you stay try the old $20 upfgrade trick
http://vegasuncovered.wordpress.com/2007/12/05/las-vegas-20-free-room-upgrade-trick/
Parking is free both self parking or valet but you need to tip the valet parking guy when you pick the car up $2 is about the minimum, I allwys use Valet except on a Friday or Saturday night as it takes a long time to get the car back. The valet parket parks quicker than me and I can walk right in to the hotel, I have also rather embarssingly "lost" my car in the carparks and spend up to an hour trying to find it. I allways find the https://www.dollar.co.uk is teh cheapest place by far to hire a car from the UK with all the insurances.
have a look at Yahoo Answers on Vegas you can bet that any question that is in your head someone will have asked (and had answered) here.

MGM Grand 3 nights July 14th $282 in total (or $177 if you book it for 2 and forget to mention your boys we have done this before) each link has slilghty diffeernt freebies. You need to be a players club card holder for this rate and the third link allows you to get this online and then you cal collect at the desk before check in though I have never been asked for mine ina bout 10 visitis there.
