MayLuci, thanks for including the prices whenener possible!! Us, newbies appreciate it!!
Hope you don't mind my asking more details on the following:
«Went up to Harrah’s to see if they were handing out coupons for Harrah’s buffet, but the coupons were for the Flamingo buffet which we’re not that keen on.»
Is this common? Where/ when are these coupons being offered?
«My ankles are really swollen and I don’t usually suffer with that so don’t have any water tablets with me»
You seemed to have trouble with the jetlag and swollen feet. Any tips for someone who has never taken such a long flight? What are water tablets?
«The dual voltage travel kettle is one of the best things we ever bought.» Any tips on where to get one of these? Should I bring my own tea and coffee?
The MGM tower rooms: I was told in tripadvisor these rooms had gone through minor refurbishements such as the bed tops, etc. Is/ was that a nice room?
Only now realised you're still there?! Uau!! So when you get back, perhaps?
Hope you keep enjoying yourself!!!! And that you come back relaxed!
I do look forward to the next installment of your trip report!!
Just for the record, a photocopy of my passport has been accepted as photo ID everywhere including using my credit card in shops and ticket booth and for changing travellers cheques when required. It was even accepted at the MGM when charging stuff to the room.
The only time in 8 trips to Vegas it has been refuse it at check in at Caesars Palace and for joining Harrah's player's club.
Re coupon's for Harrah's and Flamingo buffets, there are usually girls handing these out in the afternoon outside Harrah's and Flamingo. Last year it was Harrah's coupons at Harrah's, this years it's vice versa, ie Harrah's coupons at Flamingo.
Never had trouble with jetlag in Vegas until the last 2 trips. No idea what's different. The usual is to wake really early the first night or two. The earliest has been 2.50am. If you can't get back to sleep, I would suggest giving up trying and going down to the casino or to the 24 hour coffee shop.
Re the swollen ankles, I wouldn't worry about that at all. I am on regular medication and when I started taking it 3 1/2 years ago I had a problem with severe odema (swelling due to fluid retention). It has never troubled me since until now and I'm guessing it's just bad timing. Some people, mostly women, suffer from swollen ankles after flying, but it usually clears up in a day or two. Unfortunately mine is getting worse and the only shoes I could get on tonight were Crocs! Didn't really go with my very smart outfit, but I had no choice.
You should be able to get a travel kettle from Argos. Just make sure it's dual voltage, ie 110/220v as our other one is only 220v. We take teabags, sugar, powdered milk and a couple of mugs. The trick with the powdered milk is to put a spoonful in the mug and mix it with a little cold water before adding the hot.
Re MGM rooms, we have no complaints at all. The West Wing rooms have been remodelled with flat screen TV's, but are much smaller so we were happy to stick with the Grand Tower room which has a normal TV. Good size room and bathroom.0 -
That end is definitely so much seedier -so although it CAN happen anywhere personally I'd avoid the Strat for the same reason. Pity because it's a nice hotel just in a bad situation.
I work on the basis that if an area looks like somewhere I wouldn't walk alone at home then I'm certainly not doing it on holiday ! I'm no shrinking violet but in my past job I've come across too many people who took stupid risks on holiday -that they'd never take at home-and paid the price (I used to co-ordinate travel with insurance companies for injured holidaymakers).I Would Rather Climb A Mountain Than Crawl Into A Hole

Can I asked much you paid for your tickets? Also, did you sit near the front, mid or back?
We sat just in the centre just past the middle - was the perfect place as there was so much going on around the theatre.illegitimi non carborundum0 -

Thanks for that...I always carry my husband's passport around with us (I have a photocard driving licence which has been accepted everywhere except Bally's players club - part of the Harrah's group, so they must be especially strict). I think going forward I will carry a copy of his passport instead as I panic at least once a day thinking I don't have it in my bag anymore.
Is it a colour copy or black and white that you carry?
I'm also enjoying your report and all the detail and look forward to reading new installments as they are added!Does remembering a time that a certain degree of personal responsibility was more or less standard means that I am officially old?0 -

We're the same. We did walk from Peppermill to Sahara last trip at about 2 am and I was a bit uncomfortable...it was fine, we were fine, but I didn't like that it felt uncomfortable...I never feel that way mid or south-strip and generally feel like I could walk in those areas waving $100 bills and would be OK...I'm not normally one to worry too much about my surroundings so when I do, I'm really conscious of it.Does remembering a time that a certain degree of personal responsibility was more or less standard means that I am officially old?0 -
I had the same feelings near Circus circus too and wasnt too comfortable in Freemant st either. It pays to challenge0

We thought that the first time we went a few years ago - but we parked somewhere a few streets away...didnt' feel safe at all going back to the car...but we went again in March, took a taxi, and didn't stray from the area under the canopy and felt fine there...would go again, but will take a taxi or valet park.Does remembering a time that a certain degree of personal responsibility was more or less standard means that I am officially old?0 -
