RIP Maxjet.
I wonder if any of the US carriers fancy the LAS-LON route now the open skies is upon us.illegitimi non carborundum0 -
Thanks for the advice. But we really don't want to drive. We will be doing this 1/2 days after flying to the US and I am sure the jetlag won't be cured by then, so having someone else drive and take care of the itineray will be nice.
I see there are not many fans of the bus tours...
Papillion had a budget (helicopter I think) tour that might suit.....Tour Duration ~3 hours (Hotel to Hotel)
Pickup Location Las Vegas, NV
Adult price starting at US$ 99.94+ US$ 0 fees
The explorer air tour offers a birds eye view
of Lake Mead, Hoover Dam, Colorado River, and the West Rim of the
Grand Canyon. This tour is ideal for the on-the-go travler with
limited time.illegitimi non carborundum0 -
MarchTook me about 6 hours driving
Thank you for that...now my expectations will be appropriately managed...if we make it in under 6 hours we will be happy, but I won't be disappointed if not. Did you stop at the Hoover Dam on the way? We're trying to decide if we want to stop on the way out or on the way back...I see benefits to both options.Does remembering a time that a certain degree of personal responsibility was more or less standard means that I am officially old?0 -
MarchYoure there for 4 or 5 days......you really want to spend 10 hours on a bus?
I think that is a very valid point and may explain why the reviews are not good...it probably falls into that 'seemed like a good idea at the time' category and ends up being not as great as expected...that's a long, long day. If it's the only way, and if you want to see the Grand Canyon, then it's perhaps worth it...but personally I would hate it even if it was a pretty nice coach.
We'll be driving and staying overnight...no way we'll get my mother-in-law in a small plane or a helicopter - she's scared enough about the transatlantic flight, poor dear.Does remembering a time that a certain degree of personal responsibility was more or less standard means that I am officially old?0 -
Thanks for all your storys about static....It hurts me as well, to the point I open doors by pushing on the glass or waiting for someone to pull them open. I am scared to touch the slots. Why is it so bad in the car though even after being in it a while. Does the static from shoes/carpet really last that long?
Static builds up more the less humid it is. Therefore, somewhere like Vegas where there's almost no humidity, along with air conditioned hotels, cars etc, that's why you are very likely to get static shocks. Unfortunately, I don't have an easy solution though !0 -

Anyway, I want to stay on the strip but cant afford the good places for the wkend, so Im looking for somewhere cheap for the thurs 12th-sat 14th - Sahara has come up, is this any good??
I stayed down that end last year at circus circus and never again would i stay down that end...apart from getting mugged going back to the hotel i think your better off staying at the other end if you can...hooters is coming up the same price on expedia as the sahara...it's not far from MGM..i am looking to book for my mum and this seems to be a good price..has anyone stayed there?0 -

Hi everyone,
thank you for the advice.
After trawling the tripadvisor forum for 3 hours (the time I will actually spend in the GC), I have reached ... no conclusion. There are a few positive reviews on the companies I mentioned, and one of my posts got a reply from someone suggesting another company. Stew68, I could not really find bad reviews, at least in 2008.
I know it will be tiring. And we will be 4 nights in LV, so 3 full days only. Yes, I know you think I am mad, but I want to visit San francisco, as well as LA in the time we will be the US. So 1 day is to get to acquainted with LV, the following one is going to be for the GC and the next day is going to be to relax in LV by the pool.
My big problem is that I am afraid of moderate heights. I know it is weird, but I am not afraid of flying (high altitude), but am afraid of crossing a bridge and looking down or walking up stairs where you can look down through the steps. So I would never be caught in a small plane or helicopter.
So, I still got some months to figure this outAt least 1 thing is certain, I will post here when I am back my TR and let you know which company I used.
PS: I have huge problems with static as well. In hotel lifts for some reason this is recurrent I can even see a sparkle sometimes!! I'd better take care in Vegas, then!0 -

Havent followed all your posts, but on reading this one I dont think you are mad...I know you are!:rotfl: That is way to much to fit in. I see Ferf is staying overnight at GC that is what we di which enabled us to get up very early to see the sunrise over the Canyon (awesome). You wont see much of anywhere if you cram everything in and you will come home thinking why did i try to do all that (at least that is my experiance from years ago).
I have been to all those places but I always do a side trip each time we go. I know some people will say they cant afford to go every year, but it is very cheap if you use all the tips off here.0
