I stayed down that end last year at circus circus and never again would i stay down that end...apart from getting mugged going back to the hotel i think your better off staying at the other end if you can...hooters is coming up the same price on expedia as the sahara...it's not far from MGM..i am looking to book for my mum and this seems to be a good price..has anyone stayed there?
I have stayed at the Strat, Sahara and CC and have walked outside at nightime and have never had any hassle, maybe I have been lucky. i do agree tho that the other end of the strip is a nicer place to be0 -
Thank you for that...now my expectations will be appropriately managed...if we make it in under 6 hours we will be happy, but I won't be disappointed if not. Did you stop at the Hoover Dam on the way? We're trying to decide if we want to stop on the way out or on the way back...I see benefits to both options.
I think we did stop at the Dam,(didnt do the tour just had a look) it was a while ago, I know we werent in any hurry so we could have done it quicker but as we were staying overnight (I think we stayed 2 nights) it wasnt a problem.
We have been back and done the tour since which is interesting0 -
Dam is about a 45 minute drive from Vegas, and theres a shooting range on the way back where you can try your hand with an Uzzi.....really. I think Dam is the opposite direction to the GC.illegitimi non carborundum0

pcg2001- just a couple of points on things you've mentioned in recent posts.
Grand Canyon - we both are nervous flyers & aren't good with heights either but we didn't mind the helicopter trip 1 little bit. We went first thing in the morning with Papillion, who I recommend, and it was very smooth trip.
On the same day, after we did the tour/landing in the GC, we went to the Stratosphere for lunch. The restaurant is obviously very high up giving great views of Vegas & the floor rotates very slowly. Liz was totally freaked out by it & didn't like it one little bit. Now she did the GC tour ok on the helicopter but struggle with the Strat - strange - draw your own conclusions. I think I'm trying to say is that the helicopter is alot easier than either of us anticipated - we both would do it again.
Day at the pool - we intended to have a "couple of days by the pool". This didn't happen at all as there was too much to see in too little time. We would've felt cheated if we lay at the pool for a day or two.
For all - I mentioned previously about issues I had with accessing all the MGM related sites - it was driving me & a few others nuts. Eventually I took the decision to restore my PC back to day 1. Now it seems to be fine although I do have to open my AOL software & Internet Explorer for the sites to work. If I close AOL, IE defaults to "cannot access this webpage" - strange but true. At least I have access again to the deals when the appear!!!0 -
They dont do the Explorer Air our any more but this is good value....

US$ 125.00 per adult
Theres usually vouchers around to reduce the cost.illegitimi non carborundum0 -
I also am not a keen flyer, but we did a Helicopter Night Flight over the Strip.....eventually I realised that holding on to the seat in front was not going to save me so I loosened up, let go, and started to take some photos.
Forget the pool and plan out your days in advance like a military exercise....we did and are glad we did eg Day 1 Brunch at Wynn, Morning Shop Fashion Mall, afternoon Poker Tourney at Planet Hollywood, evening Dinner @ Steakhouse @ Circus Circus, late evening LOVE @ Mirage, night gambling at our Hotel Casino......fitting in bits and pieces as and when e.g. Bellagio fountains, Mirage Volano, Venetian Gondola, NYNY ride.illegitimi non carborundum0 -

The Dam is on the way to the GC south rim.
The west rim/indian reservation/skywalk is closer and I dont know the route, but when peeps talk about THE GC it is the south rim that is the main tourist destination0 -
Mayas a flipside (and i've no idea why there is such a difference), it only took me 4'ish hours driving...
maybe went a different route (or my foot is a bit heavier)

Have you done anything about your flight home/ I am waiting for a response from MR S Ridgway. I haven't mentioned this site (was tempted) If I don't get a resolution that will be my next step, but maybe we should get together on it or involve Martin/watchdog etc.
Why should we put up with being treated like animals. It seems that with the introduction of PE they have forgotten about us in the back
i haven't had chance yet. if you could PM the email address i will probably get around to it quicker :A . also going to claim back my fuel surcharge off them for 2006 flight to Vegas .
your right about being treated like cattle in economy , but without direct competition on this route , there is no chance of Virgin being motivated to improve things.
I have no trips to Vegas ( or anywhere else) planned for the immediate future , but when i do go back I'm pretty sure i will fly into LAX and have a night in LA , before driving onto Vegas. there are plenty of carriers flying to LA now ...,meaning no need to do serious hunting around for the reasonable fares. Air France direct into LAX seem to be £400 mark last i checked.
I'm glad I'm not the only one who gets little shocks off things in Vegas . the lifts at Caesars gave me a static shock every single time :rotfl:Hi everyone,
thank you for the advice.
After trawling the tripadvisor forum for 3 hours (the time I will actually spend in the GC), I have reached ... no conclusion. There are a few positive reviews on the companies I mentioned, and one of my posts got a reply from someone suggesting another company. Stew68, I could not really find bad reviews, at least in 2008.
I know it will be tiring. And we will be 4 nights in LV, so 3 full days only. Yes, I know you think I am mad, but I want to visit San francisco, as well as LA in the time we will be the US. So 1 day is to get to acquainted with LV, the following one is going to be for the GC and the next day is going to be to relax in LV by the pool.
My big problem is that I am afraid of moderate heights. I know it is weird, but I am not afraid of flying (high altitude), but am afraid of crossing a bridge and looking down or walking up stairs where you can look down through the steps. So I would never be caught in a small plane or helicopter.
So, I still got some months to figure this outAt least 1 thing is certain, I will post here when I am back my TR and let you know which company I used.
you can find plenty of company's selling trips by on the strip, and some advertise in the free magazines. but if you don't like heights , maybe the canyon might be to your taste, you cannot appreciate how vast and deep it is from any photo.Better in my pocket than theirs :rotfl:0 -
