Might be a bit off-track, but has anyone driven from Lake Tahoe to Vegas? We are doing this in August had originally planned to spend a night en route, but if it's not that far a drive we might just blast it and spend the extra night in Vegas. Any ideas??

They do all the visa/visitor stuff on the flight, you don't need to do anything in advance. You just fill in a form. Make sure you have your hotel address handy.

I am not sure about UK passports, but I have a portuguese passport, and it is a recent one, so I do not need any visa, but this is because this is a passport with a barcode and some sort of electronic ID. Not sure about UK passports, but only the ones issued in Portugal after 2001, I think, fulfill the requirements for the visa waiver. Just a warning.

I looked into this a few years ago - to drive to Reno, which is not far from Lake Tahoe...my recollection is that it's about an 8 hour drive or so...that may not be exactly right, but it's a pretty good haul.

Edited to add that we also looked into flights and there were several each day and pretty inexpensive. We scrapped the trip all together in the end but had we done it I'm pretty sure we would have flown.
Does remembering a time that a certain degree of personal responsibility was more or less standard means that I am officially old?

Well I have done it - I've just booked my flights for March 2009

    :j

It's a surprise b'day present so I needed to make sure I had fixed dates for time off work etc.

Booked with Thomas Cook who I believe now have 33 inch standard leg room & seat back TVs etc.

When I was phoning about for prices I was asked if I had booked accomodation. When I said I'd do it 3-4 months before he said "who told you that!".

The try to make you think that everything is going to sell out so you pay their silly prices.

    Hi wdyw,

I am umming and ahhing between Wynn, The Signature and The Palazzo for the last five nights of our trip - ...We stayed at Wynn in 2005 and I fell in love with the tranquility of the place, but both Signature & Pallazo keep calling me!!!

    Anyone have an opinion?

    Steff

I can't comment on the Wynn, but at Easter we stayed at both The Signature & The Palazzo and loved them both. If I had to chose between them (and the price was right) I would go for The Palazzo.
