As for resort fees-they are a fact of life at all Vegas hotels (and most resort type hotels all over the US) I'm surprised Virgin don't mention it somewhere in their brochure.

    Thanks duchy :T

Knowing my dd and bf it's probably there somewhere, they got a good deal with 8 days free anyway.

Well I was looking for while and think for direct flights you will be hard pushed to better that, though may well be wrong guess the question is how valuable is your time if you having to spend 20mins a day searching for 2 weeks and as you need flights in June time is running out!

I'd just like to thank Pennylane again for the tip last month about the bonus 5000 Flying Club miles for signing up to Virgin Poker. They've finally credited them to my account, and I've just booked our miles and money return flights for October with a saving of over £100 each!!

I stayed at The Signature a few weeks ago (and loved it). I booked directly with the hotel and was aware of the resort fee when going through the process of getting a price and booking. (The wording on their confirmation email is very clever - it says something like "For your convenience, we are adding this charge to your bill to cover gym/pool access, free internet access, a daily paper & 2 bottles of water." Perhaps if I had booked with someone else and wasn't made aware of this charge I would not have been too happy as it can affect and sway decisions, depending on budgets. The good news was that at least they did manage to get some of it waivered.

Duchy, when I was doing my LV hotel research, I think there was only The Signature and one other (Platinum?) that I came across that said they added a resort fee on but I will bear it in mind when looking at other American hotels.

Has anybody successfully pulled off the '20 dollar trick' yet? Im going to try it when I check in at the Stratosphere!

Twice at Bally's and both time successful from a 'classic' to a 'deluxe' - and both the deluxe rooms were 'diamond' rooms - high floor, slightly larger, etc.

Check here for experience at Stratosphere - not the best percentage, but only 18 people have reported in...worth trying at least.

I'd also like to thank Pennylane for this - we used our £20 on the slots and at one point could have cashed out with a £20 profit and 5000 points...but true to form we lost the lot.

But have the 5000 points. :) Thanks again!

    Can anyone help.

I am looking to book 4 nights from 26 July 08. We have never been to Las Vegas before and think we would prefer to stay central strip area. We are a family of 5, including children aged 16, 19 & 20. As you can see from their ages they are not young kids so they are quite independant, but we will be doing things together eg shopping, show, Canyon, but no gambling due to their ages.

Can anyone recommend a suitable hotel? Not too expensive as we have to book 2 rooms (I haven't found any of the rooms/suites in the central area that take 5 people). I was maybe thinking of MGM Grand at $89 a night except one night is Sat and that's $229!! I realise W/end prices are generally much higher.

    Any recommendations/thoughts much appreciated. Thanks
