Apologies Blindman for the omission. Yes it was your excellent guide that helped me understand Priceline and then I monitored Betterbidding to get an indication of the hotels//strategies/prices.

We love Blindman. Well, i do anyway, he is a mine of useful information.... :D :money:

I keep meaning to ask, we want to hire a convertible in San Fran to drive to Vegas but all the car hire places i've tried (Alamo, Hertz and a couple of others) don't appear to advertise convertibles. Can anyone help?? Where can i hire a convertible???

if you're interested in carhire, try www.airlinenetwork.co.uk

all inclusive insurance hire, and the option to choose a convertible (and cheap) --- whenever i've used them, i've just needed to pick up from Dollar :)

(you're other option may be dollar directly but i wouldnt be surprised if you get a better deal via. airline network)

Dollar won't quote you a rate including insurance/liability waiver on their website - so the actual amount they quote is likely to be vastly less than airlinenetwork.co.uk - but without any insurance coverage/liability waivers. Good for those who have rental car insurance somewhere else (as I do with a US credit card) as it usually halves the total cost, but obviously a bit of a risk for those who don't.

Actually, thinking about it I think https://www.dollar.co.uk does quote inclusive - dollar.com (which I use) doesn't.

    Airline network say this:
    Fully Inclusive including:
Unlimited Mileage Loss Damage Waiver Local & State Taxes Homeland Security Fees Customer Facility Charges Supplemental Liability Ins. Airport Surcharge Uninsured Motorist Protection Concession Recoupment Fee Tourism Com. Assessment Fee

Are there likely to be any more charges when we get the car? I thought that covered them all...

I use priceline a LOT but the one place I don't use it for is Vegas as the deals are better elsewhere. This summer most 4* mid strip bids will net the Monte Carlo-which although a nice hotel has major building work right next to it (not a problem in itself as there's always building *somewhere* on the strip but) this work is impacting the pool area.
However I found the MGM Grand for July and August last week for $89 including a $25 meal credit which I personally think is a better deal.

That sounds a great deal! We really wanted to stay at PH, but it's proving expensive and i even cheekily phoned and asked for a discount but all she offered me was $40 off the entire stay, so it was still $740 for 4 nights in a basic room.... :(

It is direct with MGM -so you only pay first night up front. I saw some PH deals too-Just off to look at your dates Panda
    http://www.vegashotelhunt.com/promotions/August-2008/1 for MGM and others
Checked around and can't see PH on offer anywhere yet -maybe book something like MGM that doesn't have cancelation charges and switch to PH later if a deal comes up ?

Yeah, thats what we usually do Duchy. I just feel like there's nothing arranged at the minute (we still have to book hotels between San Fran and Vegas and decide on and book a car too). Im thinking ill book MGM provisionally, just so i feel like im doing something! :rotfl:

Stayed in MGM on our first trip to Vegas, wasn't overly impressed but if it's cheap i would go back!

    Cheers!! :D
