Anyone else having problems trying to open an account online as a new Ulster Bank Customer?
The process got as far as the document-verification page where it became stuck with a 'trying to connect' icon.
After several minutes I clicked on the browser page refresh.
The system then threw me back to the beginning of the application; all my previously entered details were lost.
Another example of rubbish web design.
Why on earth does the application process want a video of my face in any case?
I am using a desktop PC without a camera!

If you have a clever mobile you may be able to do it on that.  They sent the Mitek link to my phone when I applied.

Why does the FSCS say Ulster Bank is no longer authorised?
If you look at the Ulster website they say "Ulster Bank, a business name of National Westminster Bank Plc" and go into more detail on https://www.ulsterbank.co.uk/globals/website-terms-and-conditions.html

They are using the Natwest entity for trading, so whether an Ulster-specific Ltd is regulated or not doesn't make a difference.

Tried opening an Ulster Bank account again this morning. Same problem as yesterday.
Allowing tracking cookies and disabling Ublock Origin in Firefox made no difference.
    Tried MS Edge. Same problem.

    Trustpilot review:-

Most reviewers were let down by their experience overall. Customers express significant dissatisfaction with various aspects of the company. Many consumers report issues with customer service, describing it as unhelpful and difficult to navigate. People also highlight problems related to the location, particularly the limited availability of branches. Reviewers frequently mention negative experiences with payments, indicating potential issues with transactions and account management. The contact methods, including phone and online support, are also a source of frustration for many. Furthermore, several consumers have expressed concerns about the functionality and user-friendliness of the app.

I don't think I will bother with any further attempts.

I had some issues with Anytime Banking on the web not displaying the account (using Firefox). I deleted all the Ulster Bank cookies, logged back in and the account appeared. Might be worth giving that a go.
One of the cookies is called "DickDastardly" which may explain some of the problems (a cultural reference that only those of a certain age might get!)

Even as a young child I recall realising that if DD&M just raced they'd win by miles!

    Do I get a medal? :-)

Only issue with Ulster was the verification thing wouldn't work but I assume that was my Adblock as it worked on another browser without.

I've started closing down a lot of accounts elsewhere like Chip etc as they only offer better rates for new customers and don't see many competing for top spot anymore and rates sideways or down from here.
